Message from Dr. Khoshaba
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy May! I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the lovely spring weather. Here are some updates and highlights from our Stallion community this week:
School Culture:
The month of May is dedicated to celebrating the rich heritage and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). We look forward to honoring this cultural heritage throughout the month with various educational opportunities. From information shared on morning announcements to decorations around the building to SO MUCH more, we look forward to celebrating AAPI month throughout May.
The Bubble received a thorough cleaning/makeover recently and looks beautiful. It's always a pleasure to provide our students with a clean and welcoming environment.
Students from Mrs. Hill’s Government classes showcased their talent by creating beautiful posters about New Deal Agencies. I’ve included a sample of 8 posters here, along with a magnified look at one specific poster so you can see the details our students focused upon. Kudos to these creative Stallions!
Our Social Studies Department Chair, Sean Miller, was featured in USA Today for his inspirational work. It showcases his many talents as he teaches AP African American History. You can read the article here.
Awesome Athletic Prowess!
This week was filled with competitive spirit and athletic achievements. Our Girls Soccer team kicked it up a notch, as they scored goals and took names!
The Softball team celebrated Senior Night in a successful way, as they were knocking it out of the park on their way to another victory!
The Boys Tennis team also celebrated Senior Night this week, as they continued a successful season of serving up success on the court!
Our Baseball team was batting a thousand as they celebrated Senior Night on Thursday.
Last but not least, our Boys Lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night as well this week. This has been a great season for the team this year, as they have been “laxing” like champions on and off the field!
Congratulations also go out to our Crew team for finishing their regular season strong. Here are the results from the last regatta of the season, where we came home with lots of ribbons!! Best wishes to all team members as they prepare for States!
Updates:
I know I already reported on our successful Art Gala last week, but Ms. Fischer and her team put together this visual portfolio of the artists standing beside their artwork. Thanks again to this team for putting together a wonderful event. https://www.flipsnack.com/justyfischer/2024-south-county-art-gala.html
As first reported in last week’s newsletter, Samson's Eagle Scout project continues to raise awareness about Type 1 Diabetes. He recently created a video to help educate both Stallions and visitors to our school, which you can watch by clicking on the QR code below.
Marching to Success!
As many of you know, we partner with Edison High School to establish our JROTC program, and we’re proud that our team secured an overall 2nd place win in a competition on Saturday, 27 April 2024. They squared-off against 10 teams throughout Fairfax County and other teams traveling from as far as Hampton, VA. In separate events, the team won a 3rd place trophy in Rope Bridge, 1st place trophies in the Obstacle Course and the Litter Carry. Of the 20 members, 12 participated in the competition. Every event required teamwork, physical strength, and critical thinking skills to navigate and strategize each event. Congratulations to all of our JROTC students!
Coming Attractions:
Next week, we will be celebrating our dedicated teachers and staff members during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. It's a time to express our gratitude for their hard work and commitment to our students' success.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Have a wonderful weekend!

Volunteers would support the Student Services staff in checking in students, distributing tests, and supporting test security during the exams. To avoid conflicts of interest, we ask that parents do not volunteer during their own student’s exam. Please go to the Sign-Up Genius linked below to volunteer:

National School Nurse Day
National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 8. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
FCPS appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs) for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students. Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn. School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
Please join us in thanking the PHNs for their hard work and dedication to FCPS students
