Fort Belvoir Primary School Weeks at a Glance 4/26/2024

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Last week marked a special occasion at our school as we came together to celebrate Earth Day. Under the guidance of Ms. Day, students in her class embarked on a heartwarming act of kindness, combing through both campuses to pick up litter and restore the natural beauty of our

surroundings. Their efforts not only tidied up our environment but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of caring for our planet.

Meanwhile, across the school grounds, other students engaged in activities aimed at nurturing their connection with the Earth. Some took to the soil, planting seeds in our school garden, fostering life and growth with each careful placement. Others let their creativity bloom, crafting poignant poems that celebrated the wonders of our planet and the need to protect and cherish it. These diverse endeavors underscored the myriad ways in which we can contribute positively to our environment, instilling in our students a profound sense of responsibility and stewardship.

As we reflect on this celebration, we are inspired to continue to harnessing such teachable moments to cultivate a culture of kindness and environmental consciousness among our students.

Together, we are and will continue to be Fort Belvoir strong!

In partnership,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

The Absolute Best Office Staff in FCPS!

Happy Administrative Professionals’ Day! Behind every successful school is an incredible front office staff. This past Wednesday, we celebrated our invaluable office staff. Their dedication knows no bounds as they consistently go the extra mile to ensure visitors and families feel warmly welcomed. As a school, we showered them with flowers and heartfelt hugs, expressing our gratitude for their tireless efforts and unwavering support.

They truly are the backbone of our school, and we are immensely thankful for all they do!

Gratitude for DAR Donation

We extend our sincerest gratitude to the Fairfax County Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for their generous donation of books to our school library. Established in 1890, this non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization has a long-standing commitment to community kindness. Proud daughters of military-connected parents, some members have furthered their family legacies by serving in the military themselves. Their dedication to enriching our educational resources is deeply appreciated, and we are immensely thankful for their ongoing support.

Families can learn more about Daughters of the American Revolution using the link HERE.

MOMC Book Donation from Author

We’re delighted to announce the newest addition to our collection of military narratives for children: “Maggie the Military Rat,” a heartwarming picture book by Monica Voicu Denniston, an active-duty Air Force spouse. As we celebrate the Month of the Military Child, Ms. Denniston generously donated a copy of her book to our school, enriching our resources for families connected to the military.

Through the captivating tale of Maggie, children can explore themes of bravery, resilience, and the unique experiences of military life. To further engage with the author and share experiences, families are encouraged to connect on social media using the handle @maggiethemilitaryrat or using the hashtag #maggieformilitarykids. Let’s come together to celebrate and support our military children and the families who serve alongside them.

In honor of the Month of the Military Child, our school adorned itself in vibrant red as a symbol of unity and support for our deployed service members. Students proudly donned red shirts, showcasing solidarity and appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families. Among our student body are the resilient and courageous children of proud service members, who embody strength and bravery. Throughout the school day, we reaffirm their importance and commend their unwavering spirit.

Welcome New Friends to Fort Belvoir Primary!

pic

This month, our dedicated student ambassadors, affectionately known as First Friends, have been hard at work extending warm welcomes to the newest members of our school community: the incoming dolphins! For military families transitioning to Fort Belvoir, the journey can be marked by uncertainty and the need to adapt to new environments. Recognizing the importance of fostering a sense of belonging, our First Friends program is designed to ease this transition by creating meaningful connections between new and existing students.

With genuine enthusiasm, our student ambassadors embrace the opportunity to make each newcomer feel valued and included from the moment they step foot into our school. Whether it’s initiating conversations, showing them around campus, or simply lending a friendly ear, these ambassadors play a vital role in fostering a supportive environment where every child feels seen, heard, and embraced. Beyond the school doors, we also extend our support to military families by providing guidance on navigating the vast resources available in the Washington DC metro area, ensuring that they have access to the assistance they need during their time here. At Fort Belvoir Primary, every dolphin is not just a student but a cherished member of our vibrant and caring school community.

Kinder

We’re excited to welcome our newest Dolphins to Fort Belvoir Primary Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year!

On May 3rd we are hosting two sessions of kindergarten orientations from 9:30 - 10:30 am and 2:00 - 3:00 pm. This event is intended for the rising kindergarten student(s) and their parents/guardians. This year we are trying something new! Rising kindergarten students and their families will get a glimpse of our exceptional kindergarten program. Families will preview the curriculum and the day life of a kindergarten student. Additionally, we are providing tours of our building. At the conclusion of the tour, we are hosting Popcorn on the Playground. This is an excellent opportunity for families to connect with other kindergarten families. If you know of a family that has a rising kindergarten but does not receive our letters, please inform them of our orientation.

Due to limited space, we ask that only rising kindergarten students and their parents/guardians attend.
