Principal's Message

Good evening KJMS Families,

Who can believe that this is the last Friday in April? As May approaches, we know the calendars will fill up with outdoor activities and end of year events. Be sure to get your tickets to “Legally Blonde” now as the production is expected to sell out quickly!

Last weekend, our Quiz Bowl team of KJMS Quizketeers qualified for the national competition level! Way to go–especially considering it was their initial appearance in a competition. See additional information in this newsletter.

This past week, schools across FCPS celebrated Earth Week. We hope you enjoy the collage further down of the spirited staff who highlighted ways our Eagles could treat our environment more responsibly all week. We also celebrated our Students of the Quarter this week and the ways they make KJMS such a great school. Our Battle of the Books team made an impressive showing at the FCPS finals and learned much about the spirit of cooperation as they relied upon each other for this collaborative event.

Next week, our 8th graders will take their annual trip to Fairfax High School for an orientation tour. This has always been a positive experience for both the high school students receiving us and the middle school students we take. They will get to learn more about life as an FHS Lion, clubs, sports, and activities.

Your proud principal,

Tammy Silipigni

Competitors included seventh graders Jenna Leighty, Ehren Saldana, Sauren Kwatra, and Grady Brooks, and eighth graders Bishesh Pokhrel and Mickey Johnson. Congratulations to KJMS Team A: Bishesh Pokhrel, Sauren Kwatra, and Grady Brooks who placed as semifinalists for the Academic Bowl. Staff Appreciation Week Coming Soon

pic

Our Staff Appreciation Week is May 6- May 10, and we are looking for your help!  Our staff has worked really hard this year and we want them to feel appreciated. We are asking for donations of gift cards.  While we typically see denominations of $15-$25, we appreciate anything we get.  We need to collect a total of 160 gift cards, to cover our entire staff.  We plan to raffle off any items that we acquire. Donations can be dropped off in the main office with Kara Payne. This is not the same event that PTA is hosting on May 9 for our teachers and staff members.

Thank you all who have already donated. It is greatly appreciated!

You can also contribute by making a purchase off of our Amazon Wishlist.  These goodies will be put out for our staff on SOLs days, to give them an extra boost.  Thank you in advance for your donations and generosity and thank you for helping make our Staff Appreciation Week a memorable one.

KJMS Track and Field Team

The KJMS Track and Field team competed in their first meet of the season this past weekend.  The energy and excitement were contagious as the athletes competed against 10 other schools in various track and field events.  Congrats to the team on their performance and sportsmanship throughout the meet.  Also, a big shout out to the volunteers who helped the event run smoothly.  Wish the team luck as they travel to West Springfield HS for their next meet on April 27th.
