Bike and Roll to School Day: Wednesday, May 8

We are celebrating and encouraging students to include a safe route to school as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. Students who ride their bikes can park their bikes during the school day in the gym. Please bring your bike to the back of the school and into the gym, at Door #6. Students who are in SACC, childcare or not within walking distance are welcome to participate with parent approval/ supervision. We will have a small prize and stickers for all!

If you ride your bike to school:

  • All students must wear a helmet. Fairfax County law requires anyone under 15 to wear a helmet.
  • Check their equipment: Air, Brakes and Chain.
  • Obey all traffic laws .A bicycle is a vehicle.
  • See and be seen.
  • Go with the flow of traffic, ride on the right.
  • Be predictable, stay alert.
  • If riding on a sidewalk, yield to pedestrians and walk your bike if the sidewalk is crowded with walkers.
  • Beware of cars coming out of driveways if you ride on the sidewalk.

SEL Screener Results

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) Screener during the month of March, providing updated information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions.

The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE.  For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For more information about the screener please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.  For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s school.
