The Mustang Weekly Newsletter

Greetings McNair Students and Families,

We had a fantastic time learning and celebrating Earth Week! We hope you enjoyed the activities and messages about taking care of our planet.  To keep the momentum going, we'd love for you to join us for a special Earth Day Celebration and Beautification Day on Saturday, April 27th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  This is a wonderful opportunity for students and parents to come together and enjoy a fun-filled morning focused on nature, Earth Day, and giving our school grounds some TLC.

We'll have a variety of stations set up, including:

  • Flower Planting: Let's add some color and life to the schoolyard!
  • Rock Painting: Unleash your creativity and create beautiful, nature-inspired rocks.
  • Nature Scavenger Hunt: Explore the school grounds and discover hidden treasures.
  • Songs, Poems, and More!: Celebrate Earth Day through music and verse.

Please remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the morning.

**Important Note: For the safety of all participants, students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at this event.**

We look forward to seeing you there, Mustangs!

All the best,

Mrs. Watson and Mrs. O'Bryant

Please contact us with any questions!

Principal: Elizabeth Watson, evwatson@fcps.edu

Assistant Principal: Brandy O'Bryant, bmobryant@fcps.edu

🗓️Attendance Matters

a

🙋Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

As we approach the end of the school year, it’s important for students to stay engaged, attend school, and finish strong! Visit our website for attendance resources.

🧸 Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

d

🖍️ It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Our school typically conducts kindergarten registration events, including kindergarten orientation on May 3rd at 9:30am. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan, so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

Beautification Day at McNair ES on Saturday, April 27

**Please note, if you are willing to make any donations including but not limited to soil, plants, gardening tools, etc., please contact Connie Lehman at cslehman@fcps.edu. We appreciate your support!**

Literacy Is For Tomorrow (LIFT)

McNair Elementary is super excited to have a wonderful new summer reading program this year!  It is important that students read at least six books over the summer, in order to maintain the learning they have done this year.  LIFT gives students an opportunity to shop for six new books in May that will be packaged for the summer months and delivered to students during the last week of school.  The cost of the program is $40 per child.  We invite you to join us and participate in this fun reading initiative!  Participation forms and money are due by Friday, April 26th.

Questions?  Please email our wonderful Reading Specialist, Kelly Carper at kacarper@fcps.edu.

Class Placements Family Input Form for the 2024-2025 School Year

n

We are starting to work on our plans for the 2024-2025 school year!   Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions listed below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form; OR you may email Elizabeth Watson (evwatson@fcps.edu); OR print a hard copy that may be sent to the office by May 24, 2024.
