Testing Taking Tips

Happy spring! With SOL testing soon approaching, it’s the perfect time to practice Mindfulness as Mindfulness gives students the crucial tools to deal with the pressures of life and put these strategies into practice. It is an approach that has a tangible effect on a person’s behavior and well-being. The ability to step back, reflect thoroughly and truly focus is a skill that can help students deal with stress and pressure.  Mindfulness is paying attention to our mind, body, and surroundings and focusing on the present moment. When we are mindful, we notice things early and can calm ourselves and help reduce our stress level.

The Five Senses Drill:
After 3 deep breaths, note three things you see, hear, smell and taste. When complete take 3 additional breaths. This is a beneficial grounding activity.

Switch off Technology:
Taking a step back from technology will promote better sleep and brain health.

Stick to a sleep Routine:
Get to bed same time every night and get up at the same time each morning. Sleep is the most powerful tool against stress.

Eat healthy and Get regular exercise:
Good nutrition can feed your brain and exercise can decrease the stress hormone and increase the endorphins in our brains. Get outdoors and get that Vitamin D!

Be creative:
Encourage relaxing activities that use the other parts of our brain especially during stressful periods can be very beneficial such as coloring, sculpting, sand art.
