HWES Eco-Action Leadership Team Invites You to Vote!
Voting Deadline: May 6
Calling all Mustang Families! We need YOU!
Our Eco-Action Leadership Team has been working hard to earn grant money to improve our schoolyard environment. Students submitted two proposals to Caring for Our Watersheds’s annual contest. One proposal focuses on reducing erosion and pollution beginning by installing two rain barrels to collect rainwater while diverting it from eroding the soil in those areas. The other proposal will enable us to install 5 Eastern Bluebird houses to support and monitor this native species. Both projects will provide our students with opportunities to engage in citizen science as they observe and collect data about how well these ideas work. We have made it to the final, critical point…the People’s Choice vote!
We need YOUR help! Please take a moment to vote for our proposals. Voting will be open until May 6. We appreciate your support!
To vote:
Click on the link below, then click on the green bar on the side that says, "Vote for People's Choice." Choose our two presentations, then click "Submit."

Bike & Roll to School Day
Wednesday, May 8
FCPS will participate in Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 8th. Students and employees are encouraged to bike or walk to school and work where safe to do so on May 8.
Bike Month has been celebrated since 1956 to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more people to give biking a try. Fairfax County has an extensive network of both paved and natural surface bike trails. You can access a map to all the trails in Fairfax county online.
Wednesday, May 8, is the official Bike to School Day. You can register as a school, family, or neighborhood. Plan your ride whether you ride to school, to a park, or just within your neighborhood. Register for Bike to School Day.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
As we approach the end of the school year, it’s important for students to stay engaged, attend school, and finish strong! Visit our website for attendance resources.
It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.
