One teacher from each grade level participated in a lab site around math! They had the opportunity to look at data and practice teaching math skills to some of our students. Thank you for Katie Niehoff, Math Resource Teacher, for facilitating this learning for our teachers.
On Saturday, we had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Kofi Dennis from Discovery Theater. Mr. Dennis engaged the audience in west African culture by infusing music, dance, and storytelling. So much fun we had by all who attended.
Our After School Academy ended this past week. Thank you to all the After School Academy teachers who taught our students. A special shout out to Ms. Jennifer Boyle for being the After School Academy coordinator.
This past week we had our Spring concert! Students and families had an opportunity to attend the concert and see how much music our students learned this year. A huge shout out goes to the music team – Ms. Linton, Ms. Harrison, and Mr. Johnson for leading our students and teaching them the love of music. Another shout out goes to Annandale High School’s Band Director, Mr. Chad Steffy, for stepping in and directing our band students during the concert. He also brought along with him a few high school students who joined our students during the concert.
May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation week! This is a great time for your child to celebrate and thank their teacher for all they do. We have created a day-by-day list of activities for your child to participate in if you would like them to. Each day has a different activity or craft for them. The sun you will receive for Wednesday May 8, is for your student to write a special note to their teacher. For Friday, some examples of a yellow treat are: golden oreos, popcorn, yellow candies, or a picture drawn with yellow markers/crayons to name a few ideas. We appreciate you taking the time to celebrate your child’s teacher!
As we approach the end of the school year, it’s important for students to stay engaged, attend school, and finish strong! Visit our website for attendance resources.
SOLPass provides an opportunity for students to practice for the SOL science, social studies, and reading tests. All Annandale Terrace students have access to the site. You may access the site through www.solpass.org/login or by going to Student Resources from our school website.

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing updated information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.
For more information about the screener please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s school.
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

Through Schoology®, all FCPS students have 24/7 access to no-cost, year-round, on-demand, 1-to-1 tutoring services through Tutor.com.
A new Teacher-Referred Tutoring program feature provides targeted support and extends student learning. Teachers can now refer students for tutoring, with their specific needs already identified. Students can get extra support — on their own schedule — and reinforce their in-class learning.
Caregivers can guide students to access expert tutoring, homework help, and writing support by clicking on the Tutor.com icon in their Schoology portal—anytime, anywhere.
Plus, look for teachers’ tutoring session referrals on the Tutor.com homepage.
FCPS has developed Regulation 1502 to ensure all students and staff have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school division. The regulation provides guidance for schools on how to manage requests for silent reflection during instructional and non-instructional time, and for students to leave school for religious activities.
At Annandale Terrace Elementary School, the parent center will be available for individuals to engage in prayer, meditation, or silent reflection, inclusive of their religious or non-religious beliefs. Parents/caregivers must provide written permission for students requesting to miss instructional time on a regular basis. Families are encouraged to contact your child’s classroom teacher and/or family liaison regarding accommodations. View Regulation 1502. Visit FCPS' Guidelines for Religious Activities webpage for more information.
