Roadrunner Rundown

April 22, 2024

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at International Night on Friday evening.  The evening was a showcase of the rich diversity of our school community.  Last year there were 22 country tables.  This year we had 31 tables with artifacts, information, maps, and a delicious array of foods and drinks.  We got a chance to see dance performances from four different communities!  This was also a testimony to the power and presence of our PTA without whom this event would not have been possible.  Our students had the opportunity to witness not only the sharing of cultures but our community from around the globe (speaking of the earth, Earth Week info below) assembled and sharing peace and joy.  The coming together of cultures, the opportunity to learn about each other, and the willingness to spend time together is where our children can see the practices of peace, understanding, and hope in action.  As adults, it is our job to model the way of inclusion and kindness.  More to come on this theme in upcoming communications.

Much peace.

Matthew Chapman, Sue Kirby and Antoinette Nauflett

School Events and Information

Take Your Child to Work Day

If you plan to have your child participate in Take Your Child to Work Day on Thursday, April 25, please notify your child’s teacher and the office at MarshallRoadElem.Attendance@fcps.edu ahead of time, noting whether your child will be out all or part of the day.

Yearbook Sales Deadline is April 26

Yearbook sales and pre-orders will be accepted through April 26.  Online orders can be placed using this Yearbook Order Form.  If you would prefer to pay $20.00 by cash or check, make checks payable to Marshall Road Elementary School, place cash or check in an envelope and write your child’s name, teacher name and YEARBOOK on the envelope.  Each yearbook is packed with candid photos, memories of the 2023-2024 school year, staff photos and individual photos of each student by grade level.  There will be a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase after all the prepaid orders are distributed during the last week of school.

Lost and Found

Please have your child check our Lost and Found for missing items.  Unclaimed items will be donated on May 3rd. To prevent lost items, we ask that you write your child's last name on their belongings so they can be returned to the student instead of the Lost and Found.

Student Intention for the 2024-25 School Year

If you are moving over the summer and will not be attending Marshall Road School next year (or the respective middle school for rising 7th graders), please contact the school registrar, Shelly Koshuta, at mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu or call the office at 703-937-1500.  If you have already contacted the school registrar about your upcoming move, you do not need to contact her again.  If you are moving over the summer but still living in the Marshall Road boundary, it is important to still contact the school registrar as soon as possible, so we can update the new address in the school computer system.
