Message from Mrs. Castillo

Luray

This spring is off to a BUSY start!  This week alone, our 5th graders went to Luray Caverns for their field trip, we hosted our Kindergarten Orientation, wore purple in appreciation of our military families, showed off our creativity at the Marshall Pyramid Art Show, hosted our 2nd grade families for a Geometry Zoo, tried out unfair games with families at a Probability Fair, and welcomed the ENTIRE community to the PTA Spring Fair!  I hope you enjoy looking through the pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them!

This week, we hope you will join us as we celebrate EARTH Week!  Tomorrow, all students and staff should wear green to make a difference.  We also welcome ALL parents and guardians to stop in at 8:15 on Friday for refreshments and our final Principals Coffee for the school year.

Join LRES staff this FRIDAY beginning at 8:15 in the cafeteria to talk with teachers about what work is happening each day with your students around Portrait of a Graduate.  This year, all students are curating a portfolio of evidence of one or more attributes which is the next step towards the FCPS county-wide goal of presenting about individual growth in POG attributes.  During our time together, we will also talk about SOL and end of year testing plans and highlight all the fun events planned to close out the 2023 - 2024 school year!  Refreshments will be served and we look forward to connecting with you.

Positivity Project: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence

Art

Appreciation of beauty and excellence is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciating beauty and excellence helps an individual experience positive emotions and connect to the world around him/her. It’s an outward facing strength, meaning the individual is focused on the world outside his/her head. Those who appreciate beauty and excellence make their lives more enjoyable by being able to see the world with fresh eyes. “Put yourself in the way of beauty” - Cheryl Strayed.
