Hello Fairhill Families!

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the lovely weather. Thank you to all of you who could join us on Saturday for Graden Day! The grounds look amazing and it was great to see our students getting their hands dirty and making their school a better place. Huge kudos to our PTA for putting on such a wonderful event. The best schools have great collaboration with their community and we are proud of our incredible partnership we have between Fairhill teachers, staff, students, and families.

This Friday, April 26, is our annual Fairhill Career Day! Please see below for more information.

career fair

Dear Fairhill Families:

Students in grades K – 6 will be participating in our career fair on April 26. There will be treats available to students from Career Fair Presenters that will be brought home. Please be aware of potential allergens in these items that are not directly from Fairhill.

 In addition, a therapy dog, named Lucy will be available for a visit with her therapy dog trainer, who is a member of the Fairhill community. Lucy is certified as a therapy dog through Pet Partners and has volunteered over the past 5 years with Thomas Jefferson Public Library, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, PRS Crisislink, and US State Department in support of the Afghanistan task force employees.

If you do not consent to your child participating in the therapy dog visit, please contact your child(ren)’s classroom teacher.

class placement

Class Placement Family Input

We are working on our plans for the 2024-25 school year and will be collecting parent input electronically. Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please take a few moments to answer

The end of the year will be here before we blink an eye and we are currently planning for the next school year. Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. Very soon our teachers will work together to create classes built on the idea that students learn from each other’s strengths.

Please provide your input about the learning environment best suited for your child.  Click HERE for the Fairhill Elementary 2024-2025 Kindergarten Parent Input Form Click HERE for Parent Input for Class Placements 2024-2025 so that the information can be processed before class building.

Please note that we do not take direct teacher requests. Instead, we ask that you describe the attributes that will support your child best. Completion of this form is optional however, the deadline to complete it is June 2nd.

Lockdown Drill

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. We have a crisis management and emergency preparedness plan for our school that is reviewed and updated regularly. Our plan includes procedures on how to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Students and staff regularly practice these drills every school year. We also practice lockdown drills.

A new Virginia Law (22.1-137.2) requires schools to notify parents at least 24 hours before a school practices a lockdown drill. However, we are not required to share the exact date and time of the drill. We are required to practice lockdown drills two times a year. FCPS lockdown drills do not include any type of active shooter scenario training, they are instruction and classroom based.

We will conduct a lockdown drill at our school on Friday, April 22. Our pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are exempt from mandatory participation in lockdown drills during the first 60 days of the school year. They will participate in this lockdown drill.

Additional information on our lockdown drill program to include parent tips and FAQs can be found on the Emergency Planning and Crisis Response web page. After reviewing this content, you should discuss the value of these safety drills with your child.

Keeping our school safe and secure for all students and staff involves the participation of the entire school community, and we thank you for your help to keep our school safe.
