Floris Families,

This is the last Friday Message of the 2023-2024 school year. It has been a wonderful year!!

Our 6th grade Beauty and the Beast Musical was amazing. We thank our students and staff for the hard work and preparation that goes into such outstanding musical performances.

Next Tuesday, June 11, is 6th Grade Day including the promotion ceremony. We look forward to celebrating our 6th graders as they move to the next chapter in their educational story. Please remember that all visitors must come to the main office and sign in with your government issued photo ID. It will be busy as everyone signs in at the Visitor Management System. Please plan to arrive early.  The ceremony begins at 10:00am and the front office staff will be ready at 9:20am to assist with signing in on the Visitor Management System.

We are also asking all of our staff and students to wear Floris Spirit wear or Floris colors (royal blue and white) in support of our 6th graders on Tuesday!

A reminder to families, if your child has medication in the School Health Room, a parent must come to Floris by Wednesday, June 12, at 2:00pm to pick up the medication.

Next Wednesday is the last day of school, and all FCPS schools dismiss early. Floris will dismiss at 2:00 pm next Wednesday, June 12.

The Floris Main Office will close on Wednesday, June 12 at 2:30pm, and reopen at 8:00am on June 13.

The Floris PTA is excited to announce that they have filled all Board and Committee positions for next year!  Thanks to everyone who volunteered and please note there will still be many opportunities to get involved.  Please check back at the start of the new year or on the PTA website for more information and updates.

Please watch for emails this summer as we prepare for the first day of school on August 19, 2024. Details about the Floris Open House and Back to School Nights will be sent later in the summer.

We hope you all have a safe, relaxing and joyful summer!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Holly Walker, Principal, hjwalker@fcps.edu

Eid

Eid al-Adha- Next Monday, June 17

Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate.  Learn more in this video from PBS Kids.

Juneteenth - Next Wednesday, June 19

Wednesday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. Schools and offices will be closed. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that word of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States.
