Month of the Military Child

Month of the Military Child

In April, we celebrate the Month of the Military Child. All students are invited to participate in “Purple Up day” on Wednesday, April 17th! We extend our appreciation for the service of all children from military families and celebrate them by wearing purple to say, “Thank You!”

Specialist Spotlight - Music

"It's been a wonderful start to the 4th quarter for music! We have been celebrating Arab-American artists in April for Arab-American Heritage Month and look forward to celebrating Asian-American/Pacific Islander musicians in May. Our 3rd graders have had a fantastic journey learning to play their recorders. At the end of the month, those students will finish the recorder unit and take their instruments home to share what they have learned with you. Rising 4th and 5th graders will soon be receiving information concerning music electives for the 2024-25 school year. Rising 4th graders have the opportunity to participate in Strings and Chorus, and rising 5th graders may choose between Strings and Band in addition to Chorus. Official sign-up forms will be sent home in May. We hope you will join us for the Chorus, Band, and Strings Spring Concert on May 16th, 2024, at 7 PM at Bren Mar Park!"

Family Su

The FCPS Family Summit will take place on Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Marshall High School. The conference will cover topics that are helpful for all families such as raising resilient, independent children; forming meaningful connections with children; addressing big emotions; and the dangers of opioids and fentanyl. Participants may also join online sessions, which will provide supports for students with disabilities and their families.

Visit the Family Summit webpage to learn about the guest speakers and to register for the event. The theme — Safe, Supported, and Included — aligns with Goal 2 of FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan

Fairfax County Health Department Survey

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) employs school health aides and public health nurses who provide school health services to the students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
To determine the quality of these services, a survey has been developed by the FCHD to be shared with all parents or guardians of FCPS students and will be shared via email.  The survey window is April 15 - April 26, 2024.

Survey results will provide a basis for quality improvement of School Health services.

Information about summer programming hosted at Bren Mar Park will be coming soon!  Summer SOAR and Young Scholars programs are for identified students based upon achievement on assessments, classwork, and other information.  Please do not reach out to the school to see if you can register your child.  Invitations will be sent home to identified students in mid-May.

For families looking to enroll their child in summer programming hosted at Bren Mar Park ES, Rec-PAC will be at our school again this summer!  From June 24 - August 1, families may choose to enroll their child or children on a week-by-week basis.  Hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

For Rec-PAC, families can visit the Rec-PAC website for more information.  The Scholarship Application is also now open for families who may qualify because the family has financial need or receives public assistance.
