Amazing Things

McCarry

On Friday, The Age of Learning Company, who developed the computer program My Math Academy – a preschool math program, came to visit our preschool classrooms. Among our guests was Dr. Daniel Domenech one of FCPS’s previous superintendents. It was an honor to have him visit our classrooms and it was amazing to see our youngest navigate the math program with such ease. Thank you to Ms. Rubin, Ms. McCarry, and Ms. Ansari for being such amazing teachers and for welcoming our guests!

On Friday, some of our amazing Special Education team members hosted an Eid celebration for the team. We had such a great time just enjoying our time together, drinking coffee and tea, and nibbling on some special treats.

Breakfast

Annandale Terrace Elementary School celebrated Multicultural Night last Thursday, April 11, 2024. A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped with setting up, bringing a dish that represented their culture or a dessert for the cake walk. Thank you to Cynthia Cannock, 5th grade ESOL teacher, and Laura Hibdon, 2nd grade ESOL teacher for their leadership in leading the Family Engagement committee this year and co-chairing this event.

Here is Ms. Monaghan’s class hard at work! Students were getting ready to edit some writing.

Mrs. Badia had an opportunity to work with a 5th grade small group as they prepare for the upcoming SOLs. Students were reviewing and practicing fractions! They did an amazing job.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Coming Soon

Students in grades 3-12  took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing updated information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For more information about the screener please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s school.

The FCPS Family Summit will take place on Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Marshall High School. Participants may also join online sessions, which will provide supports for students with disabilities and their families.

New Regulation on Meditation and Silent Reflection Spaces

FCPS has developed Regulation 1502 to ensure all students and staff have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school division. The regulation provides guidance for schools on how to manage requests for silent reflection during instructional and non-instructional time, and for students to leave school for religious activities.

At Annandale Terrace Elementary School, the parent center will be available for individuals to engage in prayer, meditation, or silent reflection, inclusive of their religious or non-religious beliefs. Parents/caregivers must provide written permission for students requesting to miss instructional time on a regular basis. Families are encouraged to contact your child’s classroom teacher and/or family liaison regarding accommodations. View Regulation 1502. Visit FCPS' Guidelines for Religious Activities webpage for more information.
