The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger together

Dear Clearview Families,

As we head into the final months of the school year, let's continue to foster a spirit of collaboration and celebrate all that our school community has to offer. We have some exciting events coming up in the next few weeks, including Family Science Night and Art Show, the Spring concert, and our Annual 5K Fun Run & Walk. See the school calendar for details.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or compliments you may have. If you have seen a Clearview staff member going above and beyond, fill out an FCPS Cares here.

Have a wonderful weekend,

The survey takes about five minutes to complete and is open until Friday, April 26. Your feedback can help to improve school health services.

Family Summit Designed to Enhance Safety, Security, and Inclusion

The FCPS Family Summit will take place on Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Marshall High School. The conference will cover topics that are helpful for all families such as raising resilient, independent children; forming meaningful connections with children; addressing big emotions; and the dangers of opioids and fentanyl. Participants may also join online sessions, which will provide supports for students with disabilities and their families.

Visit the Family Summit webpage to learn about the guest speakers and to register for the event. The theme — Safe, Supported, and Included — aligns with Goal 2 of FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan

True Book Fair

Help give a new book

We are so close to our True Book Fair at Clearview and hope we can count on your support. Right now, students in all grade levels will take home one free book; however, only students in a few grade levels will receive two free books.

There are two ways to support our book fair.

  1. Shop at A Thousand Stories in Herndon, VA. You can support a WONDERFUL local business and receive 15% off any donations!
  2. Shop our Amazon wish list!

Thank you for your support!

Assessment (Testing) Schedule

We thank you in advance for scheduling doctor and dentist appointments with this assessment schedule in mind.  Evening and morning routines continue to play an important role every day, including relative to scheduled assessments. As the assessment dates approach, we will provide further resources and information to support your child's success.

2.24.2.76Purple Up! Day2.24.2.76

To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 17  for military children

Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

🚍 Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.

Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to HCTB@fcps.edu.

Note: eNotify text messaging will continue to be used for reporting bus delays and bus incidents.

Muslim American Heritage Month

Muslim Heritage

Muslim American Heritage Month is a time for celebrating the history, contributions, culture, and an enhanced understanding of the diverse population of Muslim Americans. View the Fairfax County School Board resolution honoring Muslim American Heritage Month.

Autism Acceptance Month

Autism Awareness month

April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm students with autism.

🔍 Lightspeed Classroom Management🔍

As part of our commitment to creating a safe and focused learning environment for our students, our school is using a classroom management tool that will help teachers better connect with student devices during classes. We are continuing to expand our use over the coming weeks. This tool will provide teachers with a number of helpful features:

  • Easily view student screens in real time from the teacher console to see which students may need guidance or support.
  • Focus student attention on a particular website on their device to minimize distractions.
  • Pause student access to the internet to focus on other classroom tasks.

We believe this classroom management tool will allow us to maximize class time to support your student’s learning while at school. Please note that student devices will not be monitored outside of school hours. The regular filters remain in place on school devices, but once they are home, teachers cannot monitor students. As parents, we would like to encourage you to sign up for your own Lightspeed reports, which will allow you to see how your child is spending time on the computer during and after school hours.

Join us for our next Spirit Day at Taco Bamba on Apr. 16

As we continue to help our 6th graders raise funds for their end-of-year celebration, on Tues., Apr. 16, stop by Taco Bamba (2415 Centreville Road in the Clocktower Shopping Center) anytime between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. and 20% of your order goes to the Clearview PTA. Use the code “CLEAR” for any online orders and be sure to mention Clearview for any in-store purchases. Last time, your meal purchases raised $144 for the 6th grade party. Can we get to $150 this time?

Let’s talk about children and cell phones on Apr. 17

The Clearview PTA was selected as a 2023 program grant recipient from the National PTA to deliver a 1-hour workshop for families called “Ready, Tech, Go.” Together, we’ll learn what current research says about kids’ tech habits, explore the meaning of “screen readiness,” and discuss ways to promote healthy and responsible device use for all members of the family. We’ll host this workshop as part of our April member meeting and provide dinner for families that night. Mark your calendar for Wed., Apr. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center (1086 Elden Street).

Bakers and buyers still needed for Family Science Night & Art Show

Please check out this sign-up sheet. We're still looking for cookies, pre-packaged snacks, and bottled water to sell at the Clearview Family Science Night and Art Show on Thursday, April 25. All items should be dropped off at the main office between Tuesday, April 23 and no later than 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 25. Proceeds from the bake sale will go towards the 6th grade celebration.

Lace up your skates for Family Ice Skate Night on May 3

The PTA is joining forces with our 6th grade families for a Family Skate Night on Friday, May 3 from 7:10-9:10 p.m. at SkateQuest (1800 Michael Faraday Court in Reston). Stop by the Clearview table to pick up your $10 pre-paid tickets or pay $12 at the door, both of which include your skate rental. The

cost of each ticket includes a donation for the 6th grade celebration. All Clearview families are encouraged to attend, but parents must stay to supervise all children (no drop offs).

Calling all runners, walkers, and rollers to join us on May 11

A celebrated community tradition, the Clearview 5K and Fun Run is back with some new features for 2024! We want to be more inclusive and bring in participants with all modes of mobility. So we’re encouraging walkers to join us and we’re welcoming wheelchairs and strollers. We also want to encourage you to invite a neighbor or other community member to run, walk, or roll with you. (One little catch, your community member can’t have four legs and a tail. As much as we love our pets, we can’t include them for liability reasons and we need to follow the “no dogs on school property” FCPS rule.) Here are a few other things you need to know:

  • The race takes place Saturday, May 11, at 8 a.m.—rain or shine
  • Registrations that include a race shirt are $15 and due by April 24
  • Registrations that don’t include a shirt are $5 and due by May 3
  • Same-day registration (no shirts) are $10 on May 11 from 7-7:45 a.m.

The event is also a fundraiser for the PTA. If you are interested in being a race sponsor—or have an idea for a local business that may be willing to sponsor—view these details and contact Brian Kelley.
