Check out what is happening at Orange Hunt:
Orange Hunt Elementary is proud to join in the celebration of our students from military families by participating in Purple Up Day! Today we wore purple as a symbol of support and appreciation for the sacrifices made by these resilient young individuals. Let's unite in honoring our military-connected students and their families for their strength and courage.
Kindergarten Registration
We are starting to prepare for the 2024-2025 academic year. Children who will be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2024, are eligible to attend kindergarten next fall. If you have a child who will attend kindergarten at Orange Hunt next school year, and you have not already been in contact with our registrar Lesley Hite, complete the new student intake form here to start the registration process: Kindergarten Registration
Please spread the word to your neighbors who don’t already have a child at Orange Hunt. Feel free to pass this information along or have neighbors with rising kindergarteners call the office at 703-913-6800 to be added to our kindergarten mailing list. Registration information will be provided to all families who complete and return this intake form. If preferred, you may request a mailed packet of registration forms by calling the office or emailing our registrar.
A child’s record of immunization, physical examination (within 12 months prior to entering kindergarten), proof of residency, and original birth certificate must be submitted when registering the child. For more information regarding kindergarten registration, you may visit the Fairfax County Public Schools’ website
Our annual Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for April 25 at 4pm - the event will be publicized through News We Hoot and on the school website.
Purple Up! Day - April 17, 2024
Throughout the month of April, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will be honoring the invaluable contributions of military-connected youth with the Month of the Military Child and Purple Up! Day.
FCPS would like to express its gratitude to these unsung heroes. With approximately 14,000 military-connected students, FCPS recognizes the extraordinary strength military-connected students possess in order to navigate the military lifestyle. The resilience and courage of our military-connected youth does not go unnoticed, and their commitment to supporting their service member parents and guardians deserves the utmost admiration and respect.
As part of this month-long recognition, FCPS will celebrate Purple Up! Day on April 17, 2024. Schools and community members are encouraged to wear purple as a visible gesture of their appreciation and support for military-connected youth. In addition to Purple Up! Day, FCPS school communities are coming together to honor their military-connected students in meaningful and creative ways.
To connect with more FCPS resources, please email militaryfamilies@fcps.edu.

Spring SOL Information
The Spring SOL season is upon us. All students in grades 3-6 are expected to take the SOLs online this spring. Teachers will be working to prepare students with content and testing practice. As parents, please try to avoid scheduling appointments on these days and help them understand the test is just one data point. They should do their best but try to not get overly stressed about it.
The Orange Hunt Testing Dates will be as follows:
**Make-up tests will be scheduled throughout the testing window for students who are absent on their initial testing date.
**Retests will be scheduled the week of May 28-31. Permission to retake is required if the student meets the retake criteria. Please see the permission explanation below.
SOL Parent/Guardian Permission to Retest Form
The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail their spring Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first SOL attempt with a score of 375-399. (A score of 400 is considered passing for SOL tests.) Note that retests are not offered for fall or winter Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) tests or for the integrated reading/writing (IRW) component of the grade 5 and grade 8 SOL reading tests.
Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-8. If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, please complete this electronic permission form. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.
Directions: Return this permission form electronically no later than May 1, 2024. A form must be returned for each student in grades 3-8.
