Librarians with Woody the Woodchuck

National Library Week

April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students.

At Weyanoke, Ms. Crowe and Ms. Mills have created a welcoming, friendly environment. The library collection includes books on endless topics in many languages, and there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.

Take a moment to learn more about FCPS Library Programs and share your appreciation of your school librarian!

🖍️ It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. This year, our Weyanoke Kindergarten Orientation is on Tuesday, April 16 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan, so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

Wednesday is Pajama Day.

Thursday, students will focus on the week-long task of taking class pictures with four recycling bins hidden around the building.

Monday, April 22, students are encouraged to wear blue and green in honor of Earth Day.

Family Summit Designed to Enhance Safety, Security, and Inclusion

The FCPS Family Summit will take place on Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Marshall High School. Participants may also join online sessions, which will provide supports for students with disabilities and their families.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Book Fair Header

We’re excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Buy-One-Get-One Free (BOGO) Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday, April 22 to Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Library.  A community shopping event is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 25 between 4 – 7 p.m.

The Scholastic Book Fair helps our students choose books they love, and with so many choices, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s BOGO Fair is going to be epic, but we need volunteers to make it happen.

If you’re available to help at the Book Fair, please complete the form.
