Message from Mrs. Durso

Wolf Pack Family,

Last week we wrapped up Stress Less, Laugh More week with some furry friends (see picture below).  Thank you to Ms. McCleskey for organizing this week for our students!

6th Grade Basketball Game

The 6th Grade Basketball Game against Lees Corner was amazing. We are so proud of our students who played in the game, performed in the band, or were members of the Pep Squad. There was a special appearance by Oakie and the Staff Shootout returned. The Wolf Pack was able to do a full school Pep Rally before the big game. It was a wonderful afternoon celebrating the hard work of our 6th graders.

Weekend Gardening - Thank You!

Over the weekend, several families and staff worked on our outdoor garden beds. When Ms. O'Malley saw all the rich compost from our playground renovation, she quickly organized a way to reuse this compost in our garden beds. Thank you to everyone who pitched in and helped this weekend.

Thank a Teacher- thru May 10th

Each year, the Virginia Lottery and its partners encourage students, parents, and the general public to send thank-you notes to Virginia’s deserving public school teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week. Teachers who receive these thank-you notes can then enter a drawing to win one of four $2,500 top prizes and supplies for their school! This year, three student artists won the contest to have their artwork featured on thousands of thank-you notes that will be distributed across Virginia.

Passover

Many Jewish communities in the United States celebrate Passover, a recognition of the deliverance of Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. Passover is also known as Pesah, Pesach, or the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Many Jewish families in the United States eat a ceremonial meal known as the Seder, which involves telling the story of the exodus from Egypt as well as eating various symbolic foods, such as meat of the paschal lamb and bitter herbs, recalling the harsh life of slavery. Learn more about Passover in NatGeo Kids. Passover begins on April 22nd.

Theravada New Year

In countries where Theravada Buddhism is the most dominant religion, New Year is celebrated for three days from the first full moon in April. Theravada means “the teachings of the elders.” Celebrations begin with people attending the local temple in the morning for chanting and meditation. In the afternoon they have a water festival in which they meet the Buddha image and pay respect to the elderly by watering their hands together. Building sandcastles is also one of the most popular activities during this day of celebration.  Theravada New Year is April 24th.
