April 17 Family Newsletter
Good afternoon,
Today we honored our military families through Purple Up! Thank you to our PTA for providing purple bracelets for all students today as we honored military children and families.
As a reminder, we will be hosting Family Fitness in the gym tomorrow at 3:45 pm. We also have our Centreville Pyramid Art Show from 4:30 - 6:30 pm at Centreville High School.
Next week we will be hosting our Spring Book Fair. Students will have opportunities to shop during the day throughout the week. Families will have the opportunity to come in on Wednesday, April 24th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm to shop and attend the Girl Scout and PTA Ice Cream Social from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. We are in need of additional volunteers for the Book Fair. Volunteers can sign up on this SignUpGenius.

Support for the Brice Family
As we shared earlier this week, we are heartbroken for the loss of William and Zachariah Brice. Children, neighbors and members of the community have been painting rocks in remembrance of the boys to the family. If you or your child would like to paint a rock and bring it to Union Mill, we will ensure it is placed in the community heart. We continue to offer our condolences to the Brice family during this difficult time and our clinical team will continue to be available to support students throughout the coming days. Additional resources can be found here to support your child during this difficult time.

Purple Up!
Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.
Family Fitness
Family Fitness will meet Thursday, April 18, from 3:45- 4:45 pm in the gym. We have several fun activities planned to play. The final Family Fitness meeting of the year will be Thursday, May 16. Come join us for an afternoon of fun and games!
Centreville Pyramid Art Show
The 2024 Pyramid Art Show will be held at Centreville HS on April 18 from 4:30-6:30 pm. If you can make it, it’s an opportunity to see amazing artwork from all grade levels and touch base with former students of UMES.
Full Time Advanced Academic Services
Thank you to all families who took the time to attend our overview of the Union Mill full time Advanced Academic Program services starting in third grade for the 24-25 school year. Scholastic Spring Book Fair April 22- April 29th
The Spring Book Fair is coming soon! Help is needed throughout the week and for pack up. If you have a few minutes to share, please consider signing up on this SignUpGenius. There will be an opportunity for families to come to the Book Fair in the evening on Wednesday, April 24th from 4:00 - 7:00pm. In order for us to make this a success we need volunteers, specifically on Wednesday between 4:00 - 7:00pm. Thank you for supporting the UMES Library!
STUDENT INTENT FORM DUE FRIDAY, APRIL 26
The "Student's Intention For The Next School Year" form is used by FCPS staff to project each school's total enrollment for the next school year. This form is coming home on Monday, April 22. Please return the form to the school regardless of your answer by Friday, April 26. We hope to receive a form back from every student. Thank you for your time.
Union Mill Chorus Spring Concert
Alumni Invited!
The Union Mill Chorus is performing their Spring Concert, “Union Mill Goes to the Movies”, on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 PM. Any alumni students that are now in Middle or High School are invited to join the chorus for the last song, “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical. Reach out to ecunningham@fcps.edu with any questions.

The April 19th deadline to order a yearbook is rapidly approaching. Don't miss the chance to order a yearbook for your student.

PTA Funds at Work: Author Stuart Gibbs
Thanks to the PTA, students in grades 4-6 were able to participate in a presentation from best selling author Stuart Gibbs.
