Specialist Spotlight - Math

We’ve had a busy few months of math happenings at BMP!

We are currently completing week 4 of BMP ST Mathness Competition among grade levels for students to complete math puzzles. The remaining “Final 4”  classes are: Ms. Jenkins, Ms. Ambrosio, Ms. Robinson and Ms. Mextorf.  Next week, we will announce the ST Mathness Champion!

In February and March, our classroom teachers were engaged in a half day math labsite.  Math labsite provided a space for teachers to collaborate planning, learning, and teaching a task.  During each labsite, teachers learn a variety of strategies that support best practices in math instruction.  Then, they have the opportunity to push into a classroom and try it with students.  The important goal of math labsite is focused on student thinking, sharing strategies and reflecting on connections between peers.

Ms. Birkenstock, Ms. Luna and Mrs. Entz classrooms hosted grades K-2nd while Ms. Shampang, Ms. Jennings and Ms. Jenkins hosted grades 3-5.

Family Volunteer Opportunities - Career Day

BMP is hosting a Career Day on June 6th from 2:15 - 3:30 and we are looking for presenters! On Career Day, presenters will share information with our grades 3-5 students about their careers. Our goal is to have a variety of fields represented in order to give students an opportunity to envision themselves in different professions.

Presenters will share in three, 20-minute rotations:

  • training requirements of their occupation
  • satisfactions and dissatisfactions of their job
  • school skills used in their job
  • what a typical day might include
  • related jobs to their career field
  • anything else that they feel students might be interested in!

If you are interested in presenting, please fill out this google form or email Kristin Feathers at kmfeathers@fcps.edu
