#EveryChildEveryDay ❤️
Big Heart, Tiny Hats: Vy Knits for Preemies! Sixth grader Vy used her spring break to knit adorable hats for premature babies! Each hat takes about 30 minutes to make, and Vy's dedication will bring warmth and comfort to many little ones. We're so grateful for Vy's kindness and to all our students who learn to knit with Ms. Brown and give back to the community!
Building Our Team: A Focus on Belonging! This month's staff meeting was all about fostering a sense of belonging! Manny Gomez Portillo from Region 5 led a fantastic session, and we were honored to hear from a Woodson High School SEAL member about the student perspective on belonging. We're committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all!
A Message from the Admin Team
Dear Little Run Family,
We hope everyone is enjoying a fantastic spring weekend! With the weather warming up and many spring sports kicking off, it's a wonderful time to be outside and active.
We're also happy to report that we had a smooth and positive transition back to school after spring break. The energy in the classrooms is high, and everyone seems ready for a fantastic fourth quarter.
Speaking of exciting events, a reminder that tomorrow (Monday, April 8) brings a partial solar eclipse! Last Friday, information was sent home via eNotify and reinforced by homeroom teachers to ensure clear communication to families.
Finally, a friendly reminder that there will be no school on Wednesday, April 10, in observance of Eid al-Fitr. We wish all our families who celebrate a joyous holiday!
We look forward to another productive week with our Roadrunners!
Sincerely,
Christie Yarn, Principal

National Library Week: April 7-13
April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students. School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.
We want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our incredible school librarian, Ms. Beaumont! Last week we celebrated National School Librarian Day!
Ms. Beaumont goes above and beyond her role in countless ways. From organizing a fantastic book fair that fosters a love of reading, to coordinating with the news crew and yearbook team, Ms. Beaumont is a true asset to our school community. Her dedication doesn't stop there – she consistently finds new and engaging ways to enrich the learning experience for all our students.
Thank you, Ms. Beaumont, for everything you do! We are incredibly grateful for your hard work and enthusiasm.
Take a moment to learn more about FCPS Library Programs and share your appreciation of your school librarian!

Eid al-Fitr (Half-O Day, Holiday)
In Islam, Eid-al-Fitr is a three day festival to mark the end of Ramadan. Muslims dress in new clothes, give charity, and pray in congregation. Eid is celebrated with the exchange of presents and delicious food with family and friends. Read more at Britannica.com.
Tuesday, April 9, has been designated as a half-O day. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days. Wednesday, April 10, is an FCPS holiday and all schools and offices will be closed. See the complete School Year Calendar.

Autism Acceptance Month

|
April is Autism Acceptance Month. One in 44 children is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the United States, according to the CDC. Our schools and staff play a vital role in creating and ensuring inclusive environments that accommodate and affirm autistic students. |
Month of the Military Child and Purple Up! Day
To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 17 for military children. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

☀️ Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8
A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 p.m.
Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.
All students and staff at Little Run will be provided approved glasses to ensure safety. Additional information was sent via eNotify on Friday and/or directly from students' teachers. We look forward to a wonderful day, and we are grateful for those experts in our Little Run community who have offer to support in facilitating some of our students' learning.

🖍️ It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Our school typically conducts kindergarten registration events, including orientation, throughout the school year. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan, so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

🏫 Advertised Budget Focuses on Schools and Instruction
Investing in excellence means putting our dollars where it matters most — schools and instruction. Nearly 93% of FCPS full-time staff work directly in our schools. And nearly 86% of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Advertised Budget is dedicated to instructional programs across all grade levels, including special education.
Only 5% of the advertised budget is for general support and central administration. Central office administrators represent only 0.8% of total full-time positions.
For more details on FCPS’ advertised budget, view budget documents, including the FY 2025 Budget Book.
Check out the Budget Calendar for important dates in the budget process as well as opportunities for the community to provide feedback.
Register Today for the FCPS Family Summit
Registration is open for the FCPS Family Summit, which will take place on Saturday, April 20, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Marshall High School. The conference will cover topics that are helpful for all families, such as social-emotional resources, along with a specially curated online component to provide supports for students with disabilities and their families.
Some of the topics include raising resilient, independent children; forming meaningful connections with children; addressing big emotions; and the dangers of opioids and fentanyl. The theme — Safe, Supported, and Included — aligns with Goal 2 of FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan.
