We are delighted to honor and celebrate our students this April, particularly as it marks the Month of the Military Child. At our school, a significant portion of our student body has ties to the military community. As we approach April 17th, recognized as Purple Up! Day in FCPS, we invite everyone to join us in commemorating our military-connected students and families. Please take a moment to watch the FCPS video showcasing our remarkable students linked HERE and a presentation featuring some of our military families linked HERE

Together, we are and will continue to be Fort Belvoir strong!

In partnership,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8

A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. As a school we will not have students outside viewing the eclipse. This is for everyone’s visual safety. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04pm. and end around 4:32pm. With the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20pm.

Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.

Last week marked National Assistant Principal Week, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate our two exceptional assistant principals, Ms. Norma Gordon and Ms. Mary Flint. Their unwavering commitment to going above and beyond for our students and families is truly commendable. Whether it’s offering guidance, lending a listening ear, or spearheading initiatives, they consistently demonstrate their dedication and passion for our school community. Please join us in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for their tireless efforts and invaluable contributions.

Appreciation for the Library Team!

We are thrilled to have an exceptional librarian, Jennifer Kalletta, at Fort Belvoir Primary Elementary. Alongside her dedicated assistant, Margaret Clinch, they consistently go above and beyond for our students. Ms. Kalletta’s efforts have significantly contributed to keeping our students engaged in reading, fostering a love for books within our school community. Moreover, she plays a vital role in facilitating our You-suem and supporting our school news initiatives. We are immensely grateful for their dedication and invaluable contributions to Fort Belvoir Primary!

Round Table Talk with Dr. Jemison about School Wide Expectations

We are currently in the crucial phase of setting school-wide expectations, and it’s paramount that all stakeholders participate actively in this endeavor. Our primary aim is to ensure clarity for both students and families regarding behavior expectations, particularly in areas such as hallway conduct and cafeteria etiquette. Moreover, we seek the collaboration of families in instilling guiding values that will shape our school community positively. Your contribution is immensely valued in this process, and we genuinely appreciate your commitment to being a part of this vital initiative.

Our meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 16th at 9:30am in the cafeteria. We are encouraging families to attend this Round Table Talk. Your input holds significant weight as we strive to establish a conducive learning environment that fosters respect, responsibility, and safety for all members of our school community.

Celebrating the Month of the Military Child

We extend our sincerest gratitude to COL Villacorta, Director of Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, and CSM Blash for their invaluable contribution to our Month of the Military Child celebrations. Their willingness to engage with our students by reading to them exemplifies their dedication to establishing connections within our community. Their presence not only enriches our festivities but also highlights the profound relationships between our school and the military community here at Fort Belvoir. We are deeply appreciative of their involvement and the special significance it brings to our commemoration of our military-connected students.

FCPS Medication Policy Reminder

We would like to remind everyone about FCPS’s medication policy, which requires all medication, including cough drops, to be left with the school nurse. This measure is in place to ensure the safety of all students, preventing any accidental consumption of medication by others. Your cooperation in adhering to this policy is greatly appreciated. Families can read more about the policy and procedures linked HERE

Celebrating Autism Awareness at Fort Belvoir Primary

pic

On April 3rd, our school embraced Autism Awareness with enthusiasm and compassion. It was heartwarming to witness students coming together to celebrate our differences with acts of kindness and understanding. At our school, we’re fortunate to have three autism classrooms, vibrant spaces where joy and laughter abound. These classrooms serve as shining examples of inclusivity and acceptance, reminding us all of the beauty found in diversity.

Families can learn more about autism and host conversations using the video linked HERE.

Purple Up! on April 17 to Support Military Families

pic

April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize children from military families for their contributions and sacrifices. We recognize that children serve too!

Fort Belvoir (Primary) Elementary School is proud to be located on a military installation and nearly all of the students enrolled at our school are military-connected youth. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring and recognize their strength as well as resilience. Through-out the month of April we will feature our military-connected students.

We are asking every family to join us on Wednesday, April 17th. As we will celebrate Purple Up! Day, a special day for our community to come together and wear purple as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected students. Additionally, we are encouraging all students and staff members to wear purple that day as a symbol of the combined colors of all branches of the military. On this day we will be clapping-in our students. Our parent line up will start at 8:45am at the front entrance. Please join us as we celebrate our military children. This day is special for ALL of our students!

kinder

We’re excited to welcome our newest Dolphins to Fort Belvoir Primary Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year!

On May 3rd we are hosting two sessions of kindergarten orientations from 9:30 - 10:30 am and 2:00 - 3:00 pm. This event is intended for the rising kindergarten student(s) and their parents/guardians. This year we are trying something new! Rising kindergarten students and their families will get a glimpse of our exceptional kindergarten program. Families will preview the curriculum and the day life of a kindergarten student. Additionally, we are providing tours of our building. At the conclusion of the tour, we are hosting Popcorn on the Playground. This is an excellent opportunity for families to connect with other kindergarten families. If you know of a family that has a rising kindergarten but does not receive our letters, please inform them of our orientation.

Due to limited space, we ask that only rising kindergarten students and their parents/guardians attend.

Please click here to RSVP to the event.
