👏 Thank You, Assistant Principals!

Ms. Doyle and Ms. Alexander

April 1-5 is National Assistant Principals Week, honoring assistant principals' enormous impact on student success. At Weyanoke, we are fortunate to have two outstanding Assistant Princpals: Ms. Doyle and Ms. Alexander. Ms. Doyle is our caring, compassionate, wise leader who takes on some of the toughest tasks, like student testing. Ms. Alexander is the ultimate problem solver; she is a jack of all trades who can go from troubleshooting a laptop to hosting a parent meeting in minutes. Both of these leaders are a huge part of the Weyanoke community, and we are thankful to have them!

Eid

Eid al-Fitr (Half-O Day, Holiday)

In Islam, Eid-al-Fitr is a three day festival to mark the end of Ramadan. Muslims dress in new clothes, give charity, and pray in congregation. Eid is celebrated with the exchange of presents and delicious food with family and friends. Read more at Britannica.com.

Tuesday, April 9, has been designated as a half-O day. Half-O days are full school days, but important events will not be held after school on those days.

Wednesday, April 10, is an FCPS holiday and all schools and offices will be closed. See the complete School Year Calendar

🏫 Advertised Budget Focuses on Schools and Instruction

Investing in excellence means putting our dollars where it matters most — schools and instruction. Nearly 93% of FCPS full-time staff work directly in our schools. And nearly 86% of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Advertised Budget is dedicated to instructional programs across all grade levels, including special education.

Only 5% of the advertised budget is for general support and central administration. Central office administrators represent only 0.8% of total full-time positions.

For more details on FCPS’ advertised budget, view budget documents, including the FY 2025 Budget Book.

Check out the Budget Calendar for important dates in the budget process as well as opportunities for the community to provide feedback

📖 Lexia Parent Night: How We Help Your Child Learn to Read

FCPS funds the use of Lexia for all elementary and middle schools as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with data to identify students who need additional support and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize.Attend a virtual information night on Tuesday, April 9, to learn more about Lexia and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom to support student growth. Participants will also get tips for supporting their students at home. Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Book Fair Header

We’re excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Buy-One-Get-One Free (BOGO) Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday, April 22 to Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Library.  A community shopping event is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 25 between 4 – 7 p.m.

The Scholastic Book Fair helps our students choose books they love, and with so many choices, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s BOGO Fair is going to be epic, but we need volunteers to make it happen.

If you’re available to help at the Book Fair, please complete the form.

Arab American Heritage Month graphic

National Arab American Heritage Month

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.

🖍️ It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
