SolarEclipse

Hello Virginia Run,

Peeking towards next Monday's eclipse, we wanted to share the decision of the Westfield Pyramid as it relates to having students view the eclipse directly on Monday. Given the cold and rainy week forecast this week preceding the potential for overcast skies on Monday, the decision has been made not to invest in eclipse glasses for the students and staff across the Westfield Pyramid and to save those funds for other activities.

The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 pm and end around 4:32 pm, with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 pm.  Maintaining our priority on safety, Virginia Run will not be sending students outside to view the eclipse.

There will be some overlap of the expected window and VRES dismissal. Students will be reminded to not stare at the sun, and we ask that parents remind their children that it is not safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing.

While we prioritize regular school attendance and would prefer the students to access the eclipse experience through the planned classroom instruction, we recognize the novelty of this solar event.  Therefore, if it is important to you to experience the eclipse as a family, you are welcome to check your child out of school early so that you can view the eclipse together.

We are providing these resources to teachers to use in classrooms.  We wanted to make them available for you at home in case you want to explore further with your children.
