  Congratulations to our Bush Hill chess students for their 3rd place win in Your Best Chess’s Annual Scholastic Area-Wide Tournament in Gaithersburg, MD this past Saturday! Sensational and rare accomplishment as they’ve only completed “one” session of Chess instruction at Bush Hill—which began in January! Participants on the Bush Hill team: Declan Nolan, Isaac Autry, Mason White, Nathan Haug, Azeem Tyabji, Jacey Chang, John Syphrit III, Brianna Postigo-Duran, Everett Suarez.
An individual trophy went to Nathan Haug for winning 3rd place in the 3rd-5th Grade Division! Congrats to all!!
Congratulations also to one of Bush Hill’s Odyssey of the Mind teams, which competed at the State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament this past Saturday. The team placed second at the state championship and qualified for the World Finals in Iowa!
Team members are: Finn Gilkes, Mark See, Ryan Boriso, Elisa del Mundo, Ellie Shanks, and Aaron Ruf (Coached by Heidi Hess and Stephanie See).

We wanted to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing support as we wrapped up the FCPS Safe Routes to School Bike Safety Unit last quarter for students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade.
During the unit, students learned important skills such as how to ride a bike, proper helmet fitting, performing the ABC quick bike check, and the significance of bike safety. Additionally, we covered topics like road rules, the benefits of biking for transportation and health, as well as the joy of lifelong physical activity. We were proud to see our students mastering hand signaling, biking etiquette, and for many, learning to ride a bike for the first time.
Looking ahead to the 4th quarter, we are excited to announce that our focus will shift to Volleyball, Soccer, and Outdoor Pursuits.

Rising 7th Grade Families, Mark Twain Middle School PTA needs you!
We need to fill several officer positions for the next school year, 2024-2025. The MTMS PTA Nominating Committee is now accepting applications. The officer positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Applications are also being taken for the Membership/Volunteer Coordinator, who serves as a non-elected board position, These officers make up the executive board and conduct the business of running the PTA. Applicants can fill out the application form here. Join a great team and work together to support the MTMS Staff and Students! A slate of officers will be announced on April 17th at the next MTMS PTA Meeting, so get your applications in soon.
Bush Hill ES Fundraiser
Please consider making your student or loved one’s legacy permanent at Bush Hill Elementary School by purchasing a brick to be placed on our brick path between Door 3 and Door 5. The bricks will be placed there among the other legacy bricks. We have two brick options to choose from. Bricks purchased now until May 24, 2024, will be laid in late summer 2024. Bricks purchased after May 24th, 2024, will be laid by Spring of 2025. All profits raised will be used to support student events, materials and supplies for Bush Hill ES.
