Arab American Heritage Month graphic

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Message from the Principal

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

It is time to start planning for our next school year. Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.

If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 17, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.

We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes.  Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.

☀️ 4/8 Safely View the Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse is happening on April 8, 2024. It's a rare and exciting astronomical phenomenon, and one that requires important safety reminders. Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can permanently damage your eyes. At Wakefield Forest ES, we have been able to collect approved eyewear, thanks to our awesome PTA, so that students can safely view the eclipse ONLY while wearing the eyewear.  We are planning to provide an opportunity for students to be outside with approved eyewear to experience the solar eclipse. If your student has a specific need that you would like considered or you do not want your child to participate, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible so we can make alternate arrangements.

Here are some important reminders:

  • Don't look at the sun without approved eyewear. This applies to students and staff, and we encourage you to reinforce it at home.
  • Regular sunglasses are not good enough. We will be providing eyewear that has been approved for viewing.
  • Eclipse timing: The eclipse starts around 2:04 p.m., peaks at 3:20 p.m. (which coincides with dismissal for some students), and ends around 4:32 p.m.

For more details, visit the FCPS Solar Eclipse webpage.

String Students Shine on Mentor Night

strings

Congrats to our WFES String students who worked hard and played beautifully at String Mentor Night on 4/4/24.  Elementary students practiced their class and Solo Fest songs with Frost Middle School string students.  The Frost MS string students gave a concert of their own music at the end of the evening to showcase what the elementary String students can do in Frost MS!  Ms. Lubinski and Ms. Patterson, Frost MS Orchestra teacher, were there, too.
