Message from Ms. Kearns

Hello Bruin Families,

As we close out the third quarter and enter spring break, I wish you and your families a restful, relaxing week. Our school and offices will be closed until Monday, April 1.

We look forward to seeing students back in the halls on Wednesday, April 3.

Lindsey Kearns

neurodiversity

This week, and for the first time, FCPS is celebrating Neurodiversity Affirmation Week. It's a time to recognize, appreciate, and honor the diverse neurological differences that exist among us, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological variations. Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment that values all student’s unique learning styles and strengths, understanding that diversity is not just about the ways in which we differ, but also about embracing these differences to make our community stronger and more vibrant.

Kristen Haynor, our outstanding Neurodiversity Specialist, has designed a magnificent poster that should have already made its way to you through the pony. We trust you will identify a prominent location within your school to display this poster, which enlightens and informs about Neurodiversity. This week, we encourage you to take a moment to honor and celebrate the neurodiverse students and staff members who enrich our school community.

Nardos King, Ed.D.
Chief Equity Officer
Fairfax County Public Schools

MS Bands District XI Assessments

Congratulations to all middle school band students who performed at District XI Assessment this past weekend.  Months of hard work really paid off and we are very proud of these students.

SAFER Choices Program

On April 4, 2024, Lake Braddock is bringing the SAFER Choices educational program led by Mike Domitrz to our 8th (period 6) and 10th (period 8) grade students. There will be two assemblies held in the Little Theatre, one for each grade, tailored to be age appropriate. Your student will discover how-to skills for:

  • Honoring the boundaries of one's self and others.
  • Understanding the importance of consent (asking first).
  • Intervening when disrespect is occurring in front of you.
  • Supporting survivors of sexual assault.
  • Addressing today's pressures - such as sexting and inappropriate pictures/pornography.
  • Building a healthier school culture.

If you wish to opt your student out of the SAFER Choices presentation, please email Kristin Girardin at kegirardin@fcps.edu.

In the evening, we will offer a free one-hour parent program at Lake Braddock, hosted by Mr. Domitrz. The program entitled, “SAFER Choices for my Child in a Sexualized World,” will start at 7:00 pm on April 4th in the Little Theatre. By attending the evening parent program, we hope parents will gain useful skills and strategies for helping students make safer choices around relationships, dating, substances, and consent. Parents of any grade level student are welcome to attend.

Spring Testing

As the Spring SOL testing window quickly approaches, we want to remind families that schools do NOT have extra chargers and students are responsible for coming to school with fully charged Chromebooks as well as their chargers.  State standardized testing cannot take place on personal devices therefore students MUST bring their school issued Chromebook and charger on testing days to be properly prepared.  It is imperative that all students arrive to school and their testing/holding locations on time.
