PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Students and Families,

This was another great week for our Wolverines.  I am elated to have had my debut appearance as a guest conductor for our band’s March Madness concert on Thursday.  This concert was a fundraiser for their Cutting Fund, to help support students with private lessons, sectionals, etc. and might not be able to access them.

Conductor Statz at March Madness Concert

As the days grow longer and the weather warms, I'm excited to announce that spring break is here and runs through March 29 with Teacher Workdays April 1 and 2.  Offices are closed March 25-March 29.   Students return on April 3. This well-deserved break provides a fantastic opportunity for students and teachers to recharge, relax, and spend quality time with loved ones.

For our students, I encourage them to use this time to:

  • Catch up on rest: A refreshed mind is a ready mind! Prioritize getting enough sleep and taking a break from the academic grind.
  • Explore your interests: Pursue hobbies, volunteer in your community, or even take a small trip.
  • Spend time with family and friends: Strengthen your connections and create lasting memories.

Important Reminders:

  • Schoolwork: While taking a break, remember to set aside some time to complete any outstanding assignments or projects.
  • Safety: Please prioritize your safety and well-being throughout the break. Be responsible, make good choices, and follow all local laws.
  • Upcoming Events: Don't forget to mark your calendars for important school events happening after spring break.
  • Attendance:  Once we retrain from break, let’s remember that daily attendance is still extremely important.

I wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable spring break! We look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready to learn after spring break.

Sincerely,

Jessica Statz, Principal

FREE AP Test Prep

Applerouth is offering free graded practice AP tests in a wide range of popular subjects this spring. These tests are an excellent tool to help students gauge their progress, focus their efforts, and achieve success on the official AP exams in May. West Po. students can use promo code APMC20 to gain access to:

  • FREE multiple-choice section grading (regularly priced $20)
  • Optional detailed FRQ feedback for $50 per test

Contact us at (866)-789-PREP (7737), or visit here to get started.

Need Flexibility? We have an online class option! Try Applerouth’s Self-Paced Online Course - Animated video lessons and comprehensive practice for every section of the Digital SAT or ACT. Available for purchase ($125.00) on the PTSA’s MemberHubStore. More details about content for SAT course available here. More about the ACT course here.

Test optional does not mean test blind! Many students still provide test scores with their college applications. Test scores are used for admissions, scholarships, and class placement. Take a mock test to see if you’re in the scholarship range or just a prep class away from that range. Test optional means YOU CHOOSE whether or not to send your scores. A good test score can only strengthen your application.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISERS

The Low Incidence Program (Cat B) and various West Potomac environmental/gardening clubs are excited about potting herbs and other plants to sell for a Mother's Day fundraiser.  We need your help to make this possible.  We are asking for donations of:

  • Gently used flowerpots (terracotta, sturdy plastic, or any planter you are no longer using.  All sizes accepted, though 3-10 inch  diameter would be best)
  • Herb plants (started at home from seed is fine, sage, parsley, cilantro, dill.  We do not need rosemary or basil at this time)
  • Potting soil (any size, partial or full bags)
  • Gift card donations to Home Depot or Lowes to purchase supplies
  • Donation needed by April 19, 2024.

Please reach out to Danielle Tapsoba at DJTapsoba@fcps.edu to schedule drop off for the pots, gift cards or if you have further questions.  You may also drop off soil and flowerpot donations on the porch of 7913 Candlewood Dr.  Thank you!
