Student and Family Surveys

FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey is now open for all parents/caregivers. Emails were sent to families on Sunday, March 3, by our independent partner, K12 Insight.

Families are encouraged to participate. Feedback will be used to develop a plan to improve family and school partnerships throughout the division to support student success.

The survey is available in 10 languages. Parents/caregivers may stop by schools to fill out a paper survey or for support with completing the survey online. A link to the survey and additional information are available on the Family Engagement Survey webpage.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

SpringBreak

This year, spring break is March 25-29. We will be eager to welcome your children back to school on Wednesday, April 3, after two teacher workdays. Student attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind. Let’s finish this school year strong. Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources.

¡Asiste a Clases Hoy Para Tener Éxito Mañana!

Updated Covid Recommendations

COVID

In accordance with the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) respiratory virus guidance, FCPS and the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) have updated school COVID-19 recommendations.

The COVID-19 isolation period of five days is no longer recommended

New respiratory virus guidance applies to respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Students who have symptoms of, test positive for, or have been diagnosed with a respiratory virus may return to school when the student is fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication; AND the student’s symptoms have improved or resolved.

Students should follow additional precautions as outlined per the CDC upon resumption of normal activities.

Should I Send My Child to School?

Please refer to the chart on this attendance webpage if your child is experiencing symptoms or illnesses, and you are unsure if they should go to school.

Any questions, please reach out to Andrea Trumbull, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher at astrumbull@fcps.edu.

Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8

solar eclipse april 8

FCPS continues to encourage indirect viewing of the solar eclipse through solar projectors, pinhole projectors, and watching the NASA livestream.  Direct viewing with ISO 12312-2 approved glasses is also a safe option.  It is important that any glasses used have this specific label on them. The use of sunglasses or other dark eye coverings are not approved.

We continue to encourage you to learn more about proper eye safety during the eclipse. Please see references on the Solar Eclipse Resources FCPS website link.

Purple Up - Month of the Military Child

Purple Up! Day - Month of the Military Child

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is gearing up to honor and celebrate its military-connected youth in April, the Month of the Military Child and on Purple Up! Day!

This year, Virginia will celebrate Purple Up! Day on Wednesday, April 17. Purple Up! Day is a special day for communities to come together and wear purple as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected youth and their families. Purple symbolizes the combined colors of all branches of the military.

At Ravensworth, we would like to honor our military-connected-students by highlighting them on the digital slideshow in our lobby. If you are a military-connected family, please send in a picture or two of you and your child/children that showcases their life as a military kid. It does not need to be a recent photo, but we would love to see you in uniform with your child or see a photo of your family that showcases your child’s military travels.  Please email your photos to Annie Bowen ambowen1@fcps.edu

Positivity Project

fairness

The week from April 1st to April 5th our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Fairness. Fairness means you believe that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and treat everyone with respect.

Fairness is the product of moral judgement — the process by which people determine what is morally right and what is morally wrong. Moral reasoning has been explored and analyzed in two main traditions: the justice reasoning approach and the care reasoning approach.

PTA Open Board Position

pta get involved

The PTA is looking for someone willing to assume the role of Treasurer for the 2023-2024 school year. Unfortunately, our current Treasurer, Lane, is unable to continue in the position. While we will miss her in that role, it opens a wonderful opportunity for someone looking to get involved. The position includes:

  • Tracking and inputting incomes and expenses to QuickBooks
  • Creating Monthly Budget Reports and presenting them at Meetings
  • Writing checks and depositing payments received
  • Attending monthly meetings

The position demands anywhere between 2-5 hours of work per month. While an accounting background and QuickBooks experience is helpful, it is not necessary.

Anyone interested in the role can send an email to president@ravensworthpta.org. Further questions about the role may be sent to selemefamilia@gmail.org
