Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Briggs

Dear Panther Families,

This week has been a whirlwind of wonderful school activities! We had an incredibly successful Fun Fair and can't thank our parents and teachers enough for all of your hard work to make this event memorable for all of our students! We're thrilled to share news about our talented students and exciting upcoming events.

This Week's Highlights:

  • Bravo, Orchestra! Our talented orchestra students captivated the audience with their performance of the Star Spangled Banner  at the school board meeting last night. Their dedication and musicality were truly inspiring.
  • A Star is Born! Our annual talent show today was a dazzling display of student creativity and courage. We were so impressed by all the performers, singers, dancers, and more! What a great way to end the week!

Looking Ahead:

With these exciting events behind us, we can all start looking forward to a well-deserved break! Spring Break begins next week on March 25 and runs through March 31 and our school offices will be closed. As a reminder, April 1st & 2nd are teacher workdays. We hope you and your family have a relaxing and enjoyable time.

As always, we encourage you to visit our school website for the latest announcements and calendar updates.

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

A Message from PTO

A TASTE OF SPRING HILL IS BACK!

~Thursday, May 30, 2024~

This special evening brings our community together to celebrate the many cultures represented by our students, staff and families!  We hope to have as many cultures and countries (or U.S. states) represented as possible.   In the coming weeks, we will be looking for parents and families willing to teach more about their culture, country and heritage – ideas include cultural décor, food, performances, and more.    Keep your eyes open for more information about signing up to share your culture with our school community and help us transform the cafeteria into a robust Cultural Showcase!

A FUN FAIR-SIZED THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday to our 56th annual Fun Fair! The day was a huge success, owing in large part to the more than 150 adult volunteers who tirelessly served pizza, spun cotton candy, tore tickets, and handed out tokens and prizes, among countless other tasks.  We would also like to recognize those volunteers who served on the Fun Fair planning committee with our sincere appreciation: Agnese Banerjee, Marcy Borger, Morgan Brand, Molly Budman, Thang Carpenter, Tiffaney Clinton, Katie Colosi, Kerry Desai, Anna Engel, Kate Golden, Ellen Hansen, Kelly Hare, Mollie Ifshin, Maggie Kuchner, Naima Malik, Cindy Merson, Amanda Mosher, Bill Mosher, Kathrina Ng, Erin Phillips, Andrea Richards, Hope Saadat, Sophie Townend, and Tien Tran. The day would not have been possible without you! Special thanks to Principal Briggs, all of the front office and custodial staff who assisted with the planning and execution of the day.

LOOKING FOR LOST & FOUND ITEMS?

Welcome to Spring Hill’s new Lost & Found Web site!

Our wonderful Lost & Found Team has put together PDF images of all lost-and-found items! Please take a few moments to scroll through the PDFs – which will be updated periodically with new lost items.  You never know when you might find something you didn’t even realize was missing – so please check back in regularly!

Advanced Academics Information Session

Please join us on April 16th to learn more about our Advanced Academics Programs (AAP) at Spring Hill. We will have our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Mrs. Erin O'Connor presenting along with our grade level AAP teachers.

Elementary Institute for the Arts

Students in all FCPS schools can enroll in the Elementary Institute for the Arts. IFTA is a weekly Arts enrichment program for students in rising 3rd through 6th grades during the month of July. Students take classes in Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance every day. Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. Check out the Elementary Institute for the Arts website for more information or email eifta@fcps.edu.

Kindergarten Registration & Orientation

Kindergarten Registration is also coming up on May 3 at 9am. Please share the word with any new neighbors or families of rising kindergarten students. Information about how to register can be found below ! Early registration for all grade levels helps us plan for the upcoming year including hiring classroom teachers. Families with new students in any grade level (K-6) can contact our front office to begin the registration process.

2024-2025 New Student Registration

School Year  24-25 registration at Spring Hill Elementary is open for new student. If your student is applying for Dual Language Immersion lottery or Magnet school lottery, please let registrar know. You can start registration process by entering student’s information in New student Registration Intake Form.

April 8th Solar Eclipse

A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 p.m.

Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.

📖 Lexia Parent Night: How We Help Your Child Learn to Read

FCPS funds the use of Lexia for all elementary and middle schools as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with data to identify students who need additional support and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize.

Celebrating Cultures at SHES

We are so fortunate to have so many students from all different backgrounds at Spring Hill. We would love if you and your child could share more about your heritage with us. Our goal is to have your child share this information on our live morning news show for students and teachers to view. Please fill out this brief form with your student(s) to share your culture with us!
