Principal's Message

Good evening, KJMS Community,

Happy Spring Break! We are excited to hear about all of the memories our Eagles will make over the coming days whether traveling or enjoying a staycation in Fairfax. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom all over the area and in Washington, DC, so maybe that is how you will spend some time. For all of our Eagles who celebrate Easter, we hope that your plans include fun times with family and friends as well as times to gather in your houses of worship.

When we return in April, we will be busy with the inaugural season of FCPS middle school track and field. We will also have students preparing for spring theatrical performances and music concerts & competitions. Our academic teams have final competitions across the region and state. Thank you to all of our Eagles and their families who represent us so positively in the community with all of these events.

In closing, have you seen the latest KJMS web updates? During this final week of Women’s History Month, FCPS celebrated our namesake, Katherine Johnson. We also wanted to celebrate our staff’s support of building a library of books for students in Ghana. Finally, for the third consecutive year, our performing arts department (band, chorus, and orchestra) has been recognized as a VMEA Blue Ribbon School. Way to go!!! This is quite an achievement and lovely way to start our break.

Have a “hoppy” spring break,

Tammy Silipigni,

Principal

Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8

A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 p.m.

Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.
