Annandale Staff Members Recognized for FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards Program!
Our success as a school is a direct result of the strong collaboration of our dedicated and passionate staff. We are excited to announce that numerous Annandale staff members have been recognized by both the Annandale Pyramid and Region Leadership for their remarkable contributions. Region winners will now advance to compete for the prestigious EDDY, the official award of the FCPS Honors program. The EDDY is awarded to top employees in categories that include Outstanding Teacher, New Teacher, Principal, New Principal, and Leader.
Shawn DeRose Named Region 6 Outstanding Principal!
Shawn DeRose - Region 6 Outstanding Principal: We are proud to announce that Shawn DeRose has been named Region 6 Outstanding Principal. This honor is a reflection of his exceptional leadership and profound dedication to Annandale High School.
As Principal, Mr. DeRose ensures that Annandale's diversity is not just acknowledged but celebrated as our greatest asset. In addition, his leadership inspires excellence and creativity through his unwavering commitment, and focus on our priorities of relationships and support, high quality instruction, and strong collaboration. As a result, students, staff, and our community are dedicated to being a great school for all students through continuous improvement and innovative practices.
Under Mr. DeRose’s leadership, our students continually outperform pre-pandemic SOL pass rates in every subject and every subgroup. Moreover, our school culture and climate have improved, as evidenced by SEL data growth and double-digit gains in our Employee Engagement Survey results. Katie Shaw Named Region 6 Outstanding New Teacher!
Katie Shaw - Region 6 Outstanding New Teacher: Annandale High School is excited to announce that Katie Shaw has been named Region 6 Outstanding New Teacher! In just her first year, Ms. Shaw has made a remarkable impact on our school community, particularly for our students in the CAT B program.
Ms. Shaw's dedication to her students is evident in everything she does. She meticulously prepares her classroom and plans engaging, differentiated lessons to cater to her students' unique needs. Beyond strong instruction, Ms. Shaw fosters a supportive and positive environment. She models "Warm Demanders," holding high expectations while providing the necessary support for students to succeed. Her reflective approach allows her to continuously adapt her practice, ensuring each student is challenged and empowered to reach their full potential.
However, Ms. Shaw doesn't stop at her own classroom. She actively collaborates with colleagues, shaping the school's PACE curriculum to build important skills for all learners. Her impact extends beyond Annandale as well. She has secured grants to enrich her classroom and actively seeks opportunities to share her expertise, co-authoring a published article and participating in professional development initiatives. Erik Healey, Director of Student Services, Named Annandale Pyramid Outstanding Leader!
Erik Healey - Annandale Pyramid Leader: Congratulations to Dr. Erik Healey for being named Annandale Pyramid Outstanding Leader! This award recognizes school leaders who make exceptional contributions to the entire division. Over the past several years, Dr. Healey has demonstrated a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion that has made an impact at Annandale High School and beyond.
In his work leading our Student Services department, Dr. Healey has transformed the way Annandale approaches student support. He has built data-driven systems for intervention, ensuring that every student receives the targeted support they need to succeed. These systems not only support the academic achievement of all students, but also their social-emotional growth, and have become a model for other schools in FCPS.
