A message from Mr. Morris:
On Saturday, March 16, Stratford Landing hosted our second annual Young Scholars Conference. Young Scholars, Wave of Wonder, Diving into Our Future was a theme decided by our student-led steering committee. What a special day it was for our students, our families, and our school. A special thanks to Mrs. McBee for her leadership in implementing the conference. Mrs. Ventimglia, Mrs. Leslie, and Mr. Magee also served as leaders for our conference implementation. In all, we had nearly 20 staff members involved in the planning and delivery of our Young Scholars Conference. It was a terrific morning of engaging learning for our students. Students and families attended learning and activity sessions and had an opportunity to connect with community resources. We had a wonderful keynote speaker who was a former FCPS Young Scholar now attending Harvard. Our school was full of life and learning on an otherwise quiet Saturday. It was a great day to be a dolphin!
Young Scholars is one of our many academic programs at Stratford Landing.

West Potomac Pyramid Student Art Show
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
This year, spring break is March 25-29. We will be eager to welcome your children back to school on Wednesday, April 3, after two teacher work days. Student attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind. Let’s finish this school year strong. Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources.
Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8
A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 p.m.
Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.
Today is the Last Day to Share Your Thoughts on Schoology
FCPS will be conducting voluntary, anonymous surveys on the use of Schoology from Monday, March 11, to Friday, March 22. Surveys will be delivered to:
- Elementary students (grades 3-6) through the Schoology App Center.
- Secondary students via email from Naviance.
Student feedback will inform the school division’s use of Schoology and help improve its processes, communication, and professional learning for staff. FCPS’ Instructional Services Department will also be reaching out to families through focus groups.
Please contact Schoology@fcps.edu if you have questions.
Individual Spring Pictures
Attention, orders must be placed before picture day. Visit strawbridge.net to order online and enter the code FM427189. Only students who have purchased a Spring package prior April 8 will be photographed. See flyers below.

Gentle Used and Clean Pants Donations
SLES families, the Family Resource Center needs pants donations for our students. We have a large amount of donated clothes, including winter coats, but we are almost out of pants - which usually is what students need the most when accidents happen, especially playing outside and getting muddy. Please consider donating gently used and clean pants to our school when putting away clothes that you want to give away. You can drop them off in the red box by the entrance hallway. We appreciate your kindness!

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a day of mourning. During special Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus's suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. Read more about Good Friday at Britannica.com.
