Admission:  Free but pre-registration is required

A resource fair and practice event with Arlington first responders and community partners to learn about emergency and crisis resources, and practice navigating emergencies. You’ll be able work on creation of the DD identification cards to hand to first responders to identify a disability in the event of an emergency. You can also work with first responders to role play a variety of situations and ask questions about how you can navigate emergencies safely.

For the first time, staff from the Marcus Alert team will join the event. They can help you set up an emergency health profile. The Emergency Health Profile allows individuals to voluntarily create a free emergency health profile to provide first responders with their vital health and medical information (behavioral health related information included) when calling 9-1-1 during an emergency or crisis. Individuals over the age of 16 may sign-up for an Emergency Health Profile through the Emergency Health Profile Association. Legal guardians may sign up individuals under the age of 16. This team will also discuss 988 and options to call during a behavioral/mental health emergency, and what you can expect.

The Arc of Northern Virginia’s award winning Tech for Independent Living team will also be present to talk about Arc2Independence, our free customizable app to help people with disabilities learn important life skills, gain more independence, and enhance their personal safety.

Lightspeed Classroom Management

As part of our commitment to creating a safe and focused learning environment for our students, Cedar Lane is using a classroom management tool that will help teachers better connect with student devices during classes. We are continuing to expand our use over the coming weeks. This tool provides teachers with a number of helpful features:

  • Easily view student screens in real time from the teacher console to see which students may need guidance or support.
  • Focus student attention on a particular website on their device to minimize distractions.
  • Pause student access to the internet to focus on other classroom tasks.

We believe this classroom management tool will allow us to maximize class time to support your student’s learning while at school. Please note that student devices will not be monitored outside of school hours. The regular filters remain in place on school devices, but once they are home, teachers cannot monitor students. As parents, we would like to encourage you to sign up for your own Lightspeed reports, which will allow you to see how your child is spending time on the computer during and after school hours.

Help Support Cedar Lane School

https://educatefairfax.app.neoncrm.com/forms/cedar-lane-campaign

Cedar Lane is a Public Day High School serving students receiving special education services in grades 9 through 12. The mission of Cedar Lane is grounded in Excellence, Equity and Opportunity  and we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. We are dedicated to creating a learning environment that is inclusive, supportive, and challenging for all students.

Cedar Lane School is not a “traditional high school”, therefore is not privileged to the funding, opportunities or supports that other high schools have. Cedar Lane believes that every child should have equal experiences and opportunities and it is OUR MISSION  to provide our students with a nurturing and empowering high school experience, where they can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Your contribution will go a long way in making a tangible difference in the lives of our students and staff. Here are just a few examples of how your donation can create a lasting impact:

  1. After School Activities and Enrichment Programs: Please help support our ESPORTS program at Cedar and the Cedar Lane Boxing Club. We believe in the power of extracurricular activities to broaden our students' horizons and develop their talents. However, due to financial constraints, we are unable to offer a wide range of enriching programs. We would like to offer after school tutoring, coding club, and a host of other experiences.  By contributing to our campaign, you can help us provide opportunities for our students to explore their interests and discover new passions.
  2. Prom, Graduation and Senior Trip: Cedar Lane is a small school, but we want our seniors to have a memorable graduation and prom here at Cedar Lane. Like other high schools, we would also like to offer our seniors a senior trip. Your donation could help us make these experiences possible and amazing for our students.
  1. Cedar Corner -  This year, Cedar Lane started a food pantry and clothing closet for our students with the support of the Young Men’s Service League and Food for Others.  Donations to our campaign will help to keep our pantry stocked with clothes and food and help purchase items that may not be provided.
  1. Educational Field Trip Experiences and  Resources: With limited funding, we struggle to provide our students with experiences outside of Cedar Lane and the up-to-date technology, and classroom supplies they need. Your donation will enable us to enhance their learning experiences and provide them with life changing opportunities to explore and engage in exhibitions of learning.
  1. Building Wide Positive Behavior Support System-Cedar Lane has a PBIS system, in which students are able to earn rewards for positive behavior and choices. Your donation can help support the PBIS program at Cedar Lane, as the students thrive with this intervention.
  1. Beautification: Throughout the year we want to enhance the look/features of our building.  Funds are needed to beautify the grounds and to ensure our students are proud to walk into Cedar Lane on a daily basis.  Your donation could help keep the outside learning space clean and garden a usable space, the grounds nice and clean, and offer the opportunities to purchase up to date benches and furniture for our building.

No donation is too small, and every contribution counts. Your generosity will not only change the lives of our deserving students but also contribute to the betterment of the entire Fairfax community. On behalf of Cedar Lane,  I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your consideration and support. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our children and empower them to achieve their dreams. Thank you for being a beacon of hope and inspiration in our community.
