Atoms Weekly Recap
Here is a quick recap of first week of spring sports
Girls Soccer got the season started off with an impressive 3-2 win over Meridian Tuesday evening. It was a hard fought back and forth game that saw great passing and skills demonstrated by the Atoms! Their second game of the week saw a competitive game versus a talented Washington-Liberty team that eventually scored a goal in the final 10 minutes on the Atoms to come away with a 2-1. The Atoms play at home again on Tuesday vs Westfield.
Boys Soccer didn't come away with a win in their two games but the team showed resilience and why they could be a force to be reckoned with this year. The first game saw the Atoms fall in a close one versus Colonial Forge 1-0 with a controversial call in the final minutes that didn't go the Atoms way. The Atoms turned around and played a tough W-L team but fell short 2-1. The Atoms take the field by traveling to Westfield on Tuesday.
Softball got the season started off with a huge district win over Mt. Vernon Tuesday evening 5-3. The Atoms came out strong early with 3 runs in the first and battled the rest of the way to get the win. The other two games of the week weren't as kind as the Atoms fell to Falls Church and Osbourn in 5th inning run rules. The Atoms return to the field with district opponent Hayfield Tuesday.
Baseball won their first game of the district season in comeback fashion. The Atoms were down 8-2 before scrapping back to a 9-8 win over Mt. Vernon Tuesday evening. The Atoms came up short in their game vs Falls Church Thursday going into the 7th tied at 4 before allowing three runs to give Falls Church the win. The Atoms host Hayfield Tuesday evening.
Boys Tennis kicked off their season with Falls Church Wednesday. The team returns only a few players and will have some growing pains this year but played hard vs Falls Church, winning one of the doubles matches on the night. The Atoms host Justice Monday.
Girls Tennis served it up vs Falls Church and Hayfield to start their season. The Atoms played hard but were no match for both teams winning only one match between the two games. The Atoms return to the court Monday evening at Justice.
Boys Lacrosse got their season underway with a road game to Marshall Friday evening. The Atoms continue their growth from last year but their teamwork and determination were on display as they gave the Statesmen all they could handle. The Atoms fell short but look to get back after Monday evening as they host Wakefield.
Girls Lacrosse had a great game vs Marshall. An early deficit of 6-1 saw the Atoms storm back before the half to be down 7-5 midway through. Unfortunately the Atoms lost the steam and fell 11-7 but it was an impressive showing by the team in their first game. The Atoms are playing in the Atoms Lacrosse Tournament today and return to play Friday at South Lakes.
Outdoor Track & Field had their first event of the year at TJ Wednesday evening. The Atoms showed up throughout the night with several athletes qualifying for the district and region meets after just one event. The Atoms hit the track again Wednesday at Justice.

Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified.
