FCPS SR&R Cell Phone

Image of a cell phone with an exclamation in a red conversation bubble

We have noticed a lot of student cell phones now in the building. As a reminder, according to FCPS SR&R:

Students in grades K-6 (including 6th grade students at Poe MS, Holmes MS, and Glasgow MS): Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited. Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.

With this, please refrain from texting your student during the school day. If you need to contact them with an urgent message please call the main office at 703-718-8000.

Arrival Procedure Update

In efforts to support student safety, the hallway bathrooms will be closed during arrival from 8:45am-9:00am. We have noticed an increase number of students congregating in the bathroom and not using them for their intended purposes. If a student needs to use the bathroom during arrival they can go to the main office. We believe that this is a necessary step to keep our students safe and to promote quick transitions from arrival to the classrooms.

Groveton Spotlight: Virginia History Day

Virginia history day

Congratulations to our 4th graders (not pictured: Oliver Tuckley) who represented the Groveton Tigers at the Regional Virginia History Day competition at West Springfield High School on March 2. A few of our students will be showcasing their projects at the Virginia State History Day competition in Richmond on April 27!

Special thank you to Ms. Matthews for bringing this opportunity to Groveton and working with the PTA to make this happen!
