principal's message

Hello Mustangs,

Can you believe we are just one week away from spring break? Where did the time go? Additionally, we have some exciting news to share – our Concert Green Orchestra, Intermezzo Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band earned the highest rating in the State of Virginia, SUPERIOR, at their State Assessment Performances this past weekend! We know these talented students worked tirelessly to achieve this level of success, and we are so proud of them! As always, thank you so much for your support, and please let us know if you have any questions, feedback, or concerns. Enjoy your weekend!

Justin Simmons | Principal | South County Middle School

On Monday, March 18, South County Middle School parents/guardians will be sent an email containing a link to complete the online FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the VDOE-mandated Performance Evaluation Program for principals and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include how the principal demonstrates/impacts instructional leadership, school climate, management, communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism within the school.

The questionnaire will be administered between March 18 and April 5. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Your feedback matters!

College Partnership Program

Do you have a student in the 8th grade who wants to go to college? If so, they should consider applying to the College Partnership Program (CPP), which offers support as students explore the idea of going to college! While the original deadline to apply is March 15, 2024, SCMS 8th grade students can apply until March 22, 2024.

CPP offers programming to help prepare students and families from 9th grade all the way through applying to and enrolling in college, including:

  •         Academic counseling;
  •         College visits;
  •         Help with completing college and scholarship applications;
  •         Monthly meetings;
  •         Parent education sessions;
  •         SAT preparation classes;
  •         A summer overnight experience on a college campus; and
  •         News and information related to colleges and careers via Schoology.

All students are eligible and encouraged to apply to this program, and are expected to meet the following requirements:

  •         Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in core classes
  •         Attend CPP activities
  •         Are willing to pursue advanced coursework
  •         Demonstrate leadership in school or community activities

The goal of the program is to systematically mitigate the impact of barriers to access and opportunity, and support students who are from populations that are historically underrepresented on college campuses. This includes students who are the first in their family to attend college in the U.S., English language learners, students who are economically disadvantaged, and students with disabilities.

Students can click HERE to apply, as the application will only work for a student’s fcpsschools.net account.

All applications will be submitted ONLINE ONLY.

During Ramadan (March 11 – April 9), the preferred location for prayer (B106-Orchestra Room) will be available to students from 1:20-1:40p. Again, parent/guardian permission will need to be given and teachers will know if students in their class are participating.
