Dear Poplar Tree Families,

As many of you know, Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and reflection for Muslims, began this week. During this time, our Muslim students, families, and staff members will be observing traditions that center around prayer, charity, and community.

Here at Poplar Tree, we strive to foster a respectful and inclusive environment. We can support our Muslim community members during Ramadan by:

  • Being understanding: Some students observing Ramadan may experience changes in energy levels or require adjustments to their schedules.
  • Celebrating the spirit: We can encourage acts of kindness and generosity throughout the school, reflecting the spirit of Ramadan.

Wishing all those celebrating Ramadan a peaceful and blessed month.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sue Andujar, Principal

Amy Alley, Assistant Principal

💡Uniquely YOU Spotlight 💡

As we are helping ensure everyone at Poplar Tree has the opportunity to celebrate their uniqueness, we also want to highlight what makes our staff members unique! This week's spotlight is our other ESOL teacher - Patty Chambers.

Mrs. Chambers

Think about it...what makes YOU Uniquely YOU!?

attend today, achieve tomorrow!

✅ Student Attendance🏫

Student attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers are teaching, and students are learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind.

Family trips taken during school days will be counted as “Unexcused Absences.” Excessive absences can additionally hurt our school’s accreditation status with the Virginia Department of Education. Most importantly, it creates a very difficult learning gap in a student’s education both academically and socially for all the days that are missed.

We ask that families do their best to schedule your trips during school breaks. The next school break is Spring Break which is March 25-29. Spring Break is followed by two teacher workdays (student holidays) on Monday, April 1 and Tuesday, April .

Please reach out to our school counselors Beth Mertens (eemertens@fcps.edu) or Stephanie Girellini (smgirellini@fcps.edu) if you have any attendance concerns. You can also visit this website for attendance resources.

Let’s work together to make sure your student(s) are in school and excited to finish the year strong!

SCA Canned Food Drive

🥫SCA Food Drive 🥫

The SCA is running a food drive through 3/22 to help support our community. All donations will be donated to a local food pantry. There's a bin in the lobby to place any canned goods or non-perishables. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Sniffin (smsniffin@fcps.edu).

Kindergarten Registration

🏫 Kindergarten Registration 🏫

We are so excited for our littlest Panthers to join our school for the 2024-2025 school year!

It's time to register your child for Kindergarten! To do this, fill out the forms linked HERE. Then, please contact our School Information Assistant (SIA), Claudia Guitjens-Munson (caguitjensmu@fcps.edu) to schedule an appointment!

Kindergarten Orientation

🔠 Kindergarten Orientation 🖐🏼

Our future Panthers and their families are invited to come meet our Kindergarten teachers, see our Kindergarten classrooms, and learn more about our school community!

  • When: Tuesday, April 2, 2024
  • Time: 2:00 - 3:00 pm

Students will go to classrooms with the teachers, hear a story in the library, and take a tour of a bus, while guardians will meet in the cafeteria for a presentation!

Little Free Library

📚 SCA Little Free Library 📚

We love seeing all of the use that the Little Free Library gets, however, we noticed it's running low on books. If you have any books that you're looking to donate, please feel free to add them directly to the shelves or coordinate a drop off time with Mrs. Sniffin (smsniffin@fcps.edu).

Thank you for your continued support of our community!
