wax museum

OES 3rd grade students transformed the cafeteria into a Wax Museum this week.  Students, staff, and parents visited and learned about many important figures, such as King Tut, George Washington, David Beckham, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coco Chanel.  The students did a fantastic job of researching and presenting!

kastner

This morning, Region1 Assistant Superintendent, Douglas Tyson, and School Board member, Karl Frisch, announced that Mrs. Kastner, OES Family Liaison, has been selected as the Region's Outstanding Operational Employee!  We have always know that she is the best!  We are so appreciative of all she does for our students and families.

feedback

On Monday, March 18, OES parents/guardians will be sent an email containing a link to complete the online FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the VDOE-mandated Performance Evaluation Program for principals and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include how the principal demonstrates/impacts instructional leadership, school climate, management, communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism within the school.

The questionnaire will be administered between March 18 and April 5. When you receive an email from FCPS Surveys, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. Thank you!

Therapy Dog Visits

We have some exciting news to share with you!  A volunteer, certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD), has generously offered to visit OES monthly with her dog, Harper, for the remainder of this school year. Harper's first visit will be on Monday, March 18.

We are thrilled with the possibilities this experience will offer, including working with students in small groups, reading with children, and helping children to practice their fluency skills. Additionally, the simple presence of a dog at school can bring joy, provide support, and lower stress levels of children, which optimizes learning capacity. Any therapy dog visiting OES will have passed the requirements of ATD, is insured, and is up to date on all vaccinations. Learn more about the ATD.

If you do not want your child(ren) to interact with a therapy dog, fill out the form linked here as soon as possible. Unfortunately, not all students will have the opportunity to meet Harper this year.

book fair

Parent Volunteers Needed for OES Scholastic Book Fair: April 17-26

Calling all book lovers!! The Scholastic Book Fair is back again and Mrs. Harmon, our fabulous school librarian, will need lots of extra hands during the school day to assist with set up, run the cash registers, help students select books, and pack up at the end of the fair. There are evening opportunities as well as shifts during the school day. No experience necessary! Volunteering at the book fair is a great chance to help directly with students in the school, and accompany your own children as they select books as well. Please take a look at your schedule and sign up ahead of time to volunteer here.

If you have any questions, contact Betsy Rice at betsyarice@gmail.com. If you are only able to be there for a portion of a shift, just note that in your sign up comments. Thanks for your help making this fun event successful for everyone!
