Eighth grade students visited Chantilly HS and Oakton HS to learn about organizations, clubs, and sports to join next year.

Good afternoon, Franklin Community,

Our 8th graders had an amazing day today at their high school activities fairs!  We are so grateful for the partnerships with our high schools to allow our students this chance to visit and see what opportunities might be available for them as they transition into 9th grade.  A special thank you to our parent volunteers who helped to make this such a successful experience for our students today.

The excitement our 8th graders were feeling from their high school visits today also continues for our entire student body tonight for our annual Franklin MS vs Rocky Run MS basketball game!  Please join me in cheering on our Falcons to another year of victory tonight!  Our staff game tips off at 5:00 at Chantilly HS so please bring your loudest voices and enthusiasm to our side of the gym!  For families dropping off their child at the event, please be sure to be back by 8:15 to pick up your child.

Lastly, we are kicking off the final week of the 3rd quarter and the week before spring break next week with our Stress Less, Laugh More week!  We have therapy animals coming to visit our students, fun games during lunches, activities during advisory and a great spirit week in store for all of our students!  Thank you so much for your generous donations to our Signup Genius for items for the week.

Have a wonderful weekend and please reach out to me at MLCase@fcps.edu with any questions or concerns.  Go Franklin!  Beat Rocky!

Sincerely,

Michelle Case

Interim Principal

🎤 Join a Community Conversation on Fentanyl and Other Drugs

A community conversation addressing the opioid crisis within Northern Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools will be held Monday, March 18, 6:30-8:00 PM, in the auditorium at Lake Braddock Secondary School.  Please enter through Door #14.

All attendees will receive a free REVIVE! Narcan training during the event and learn about support services currently available within FCPS and Fairfax County.

This discussion will provide families, staff, and students with valuable knowledge about the dangers of drugs and deadly fentanyl.  The material discussed is suitable for students in grade 6 and higher.  Together, as a community, we aim to explore collaborative strategies to minimize the impact of these harmful and sometimes fatal substances.

Language interpretation services are available as well as American Sign Language accommodation.  Childcare and transportation will also be provided, as needed. Learn more about the event and register online.

🌷Office Closed – Spring Break

While students do not have school on April 1 (Teacher Workday) or April 2 (Staff Development Day), the main office will be open on those days.

😎 Safely View the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8

A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 p.m.

Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.

All students will hear from Mr. Gibbs during our author visit at Franklin on April 17 during the school day.
