In accordance with the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) respiratory virus guidance announced on March 1, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) have updated school COVID-19 recommendations.

- Student is fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication; AND
- Student’s symptoms have improved or resolved
- Students should follow additional precautions as outlined per the CDC upon resumption of normal activities
The following school operations will continue:
- COVID Absence Reporting in SIS
- COVID student cases will be notated via the Student Information System (SIS) as an excused absence
- COVID-19 Outbreak Reporting
- When there are three (3) or more reported cases of COVID-19 in an identified group of students and/or school-based staff (e.g., class, team, club) within 14 days, the school will report the outbreak.
- Outbreak reporting is for school-based locations only.
- COVID-19 at-home test kits continue to be available for students.
- Parents and families of a positive student case may refer to the Health and Safety Guidance Document for additional information.
Thank you for your continued support to help keep our students and staff healthy.
Best,
Jamie Luerssen
