This year, spring break is March 25-29. We will be eager to welcome your children back to school on Wednesday, April 3, after two teacher work days. Student attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind. Let’s finish this school year strong. Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) strongly believes family engagement is a shared responsibility between home and school. Together, we are the co-creators in preparing students for success.
The FCPS Family Engagement Survey is available until Friday, March 22. Families are encouraged to complete the survey as it provides the opportunity to share family perspectives and offer feedback on their family’s engagement experience within FCPS. The survey results will help the school division better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school community.
Parents/caregivers should have received an email invitation with a unique survey link from K12 Insight on March 3. The subject line was: FCPS Family Engagement Survey. Families may also access the survey through the FCPS website.
A total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, and will be viewable, depending on weather, in Fairfax County. The eclipse will begin in our area around 2:04 p.m. and end around 4:32 p.m., with the maximum eclipse occurring around 3:20 pm.
Because the timing overlaps with dismissal, it is crucial that students understand the importance of safe viewing practices. We encourage families to review these Solar Eclipse Resources, especially the eye safety information. We hope everyone takes the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon while prioritizing safe solar viewing.
Don't wait...it is time to order your child's WFES 2023-24 yearbook. Deadline for yearbook ordering is 4/12.

The Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is seeking nominations for the First Class Awards. The awards are presented annually to educators, administrators, and students who support, design, and/or implement inclusion activities that result in positive outcomes for students. The ACSD will recognize award winners at the Family Summit on Saturday, April 20.
Nominate an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to inclusive practices in Fairfax County Public Schools by Friday, March 22. Email SpecialEdConf@fcps.edu with questions.
The WFES PTA is sponsoring participation in Read Across America March and will be helping your kids to “read across America” with a Read-A-Thon from March 1 to March 22. Each page the students read will reflect 1 mile traveled, with the goal of reading enough pages to cover the distance from Annandale, VA to San Francisco, CA.
Each week, you can submit the number of pages your child has read (or that you have read to your child) the prior week electronically using this form, or you can fill out a paper version of this form that was included in your child’s Thursday folder. Any paper forms completed must be submitted back to your child’s teacher no later than April 4.
The child in each grade who has read the most pages (or has the most pages read to them) will win a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble, and each Read-A-Thon participant will receive a bookmark. But the biggest prize, of course, will be the joy of reading and, hopefully, finding some great new books in the process.
If you have any questions, please reach out to VP, Academics Erin Weber at erinrweber@gmail.com.

Registration for the 30th Annual Central Fairfax Band Camp is OPEN!
Register now: https://www.robinsonband.org/centralfairfaxbandcamp June 20 - July 3, 8:30am - 12:00pm
Students in rising grades 5-9 are encouraged to join us for a fun half-day camp to gain new skills on their instruments. Our incredible staff of professional musicians teach students in full band class, sectionals class, and individual instrumental methods, and students perform in our End of Camp Concert on the last day of camp. Students will leave camp feeling more confident on your instrument and excited about band next year. Students from any school/homeschool and experience level are welcome to participate, even students who have never played before. Beginners don’t have to have any experience at all - they'll go from learning how to put your instrument together to playing a concert in just a few weeks!
Students in all FCPS schools can enroll in the Elementary Institute for the Arts. IFTA is a weekly Arts enrichment program for students in rising 3rd through 6th grades during the month of July. Students take classes in Art, Music, Theatre, and Dance every day. Transportation is provided from around the county. Tuition assistance is available for students who qualify. Check out the Elementary Institute for the Arts website for more information or email eifta@fcps.edu.
