Navy Update - 3.10.24

We had an incredible turnout for Navy's first-ever Literacy Night.  Families brought their flashlights, their PJs, their books to swap, and their excitement while engaging in literacy activities across our building.  Thanks to our amazing parent community and our awesome staff volunteers for making this inaugural event a huge success!

Ramadan Begins March 11

This year, the first full day of Ramadan is Monday, March 11. In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During this month Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity and good deeds. Read Across America Spirit Week begins MONDAY

ReadAmerica

Literacy Month Continues with our Read Across America Spirit Week on Monday!

Thank you to the many families that came out for Literacy Night to celebrate literacy! I would like to extend my gratitude to our PTO for their amazing support, as well as our dedicated administration and staff who worked tirelessly in support of Literacy Night.

The importance of literacy unites us as a school and a community. Next week we will celebrate Read Across America with a spirit week created to reinforce the characteristics of a Navy STAR: Safe, Thoughtful, Attentive and Respectful. Teachers will discuss the importance of Navy STARS making SAFE choices through suggested literature. Students are encouraged to wear neon colors and show appreciation to our Navy Safety Patrols and all those in our community who keep us safe!

Thank you for your continued support of literacy through the PTO’s Read-a-Thon throughout the month of March. Promoting literacy in your family by leveraging this fundraiser will support the literacy development of your children. As we continue to value literacy as a community, we send a powerful message to our students that reading is critical to our success and has the power to change our lives. Let’s continue to “read under the stars” this month and create a better future for our children.

The Read-A-Thon started a week ago! We are more than halfway to our fundraising goal of 30k! To learn more, sign up, or to follow along, visit the PTO fundraiser here. We would love it if you shared a photo of your child reading for the Read-A-Thon at home. Please email a photo to Chrissy McLaughlin, our tech coach: cmmclaughlin@fcps.edu. Chrissy will compile the photos to celebrate our readers on Navy’s social media pages and the WNES news (Navy’s daily live news show). Thank you! Keep the reading going as we start our Read Across America Spirit week tomorrow!
