From your Academy Administrator

Fairfax Academy Friends and Family,

We hope you are enjoying the taste of spring this week and are gearing up for a fantastic end of 3rd quarter before we begin the fast-pace of 4th quarter. We have a record number of registrations for next year and look forward to continuing to work with current students and celebrating our seniors!

A word about attendance: As those senior schedules and testing calendars roll in, please notify us of any days that your student will not be attending so we can ensure all end of the year requirements are met. You can do that by filling out the pre-arranged absence form or using our online attendance form (see the link at the bottom of this email).

We have a number of exciting events over the next few months, starting off with this Friday’s Cultural Celebration at Fairfax High School. Keep reading for more information and updated times for a number of our spring events being produced by Fashion, Dance, MCT, MTAS and more.

We have two contests our students can compete in. One is the annual Fairfax Rotary Club Music Contact and the second if the Inaugural Spotlight on the Arts Art Contest. See details below. Performing arts students should also be on the lookout for the annual Academy Scholarship sponsored by Spotlight on the Arts. Information will be shared through their Academy teachers.

We hope everyone marches strongly to the end of the 3rd quarter!

In partnership,

Mrs. Cook

Ms. Barnes (Dance) Receives Wolf Trap 2024 Grant

Wolf Trap grant

Congrats to Dance Program Director Ms. Barnes for being a recipient of the Wolf Trap Performing Arts Teacher Grant! Thank you for your commitment to empower young artists, share their important work, and collaborate with industry professionals.

This grant supports “Dance for a Change”, a dance project being created through collaboration with a dance historian and guest artists from Imagination Stage. Academy dancers will choreograph small group pieces drawing inspiration from American dance icons who used their work to address injustices. The focus is to encourage students to leverage the power of the arts as a means of social commentary, ignite awareness, and inspire change.

Registration & Audition Updates

As we approach the registration deadline of March 6th, 2024, please make sure that your student connects with their base school counselor ASAP to register. This includes current Academy students who will be requesting the next level of the class. Any Academy requests after 3/6 will be considered late, and this could impact student placements.

Also, please make sure to check your student email and parent email to complete any additional auditions or portfolio reviews required for each class. Audition information can be found here - materials require a Google Student Account in order to access. Please note the on-time audition and portfolio deadline of 3/6.

If your student has completed these steps already, thanks so much! Base school counselors will be sharing information with students by 5/1/24 about Fairfax Academy admission outcomes.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to Academy Counselor, Luke Donald at ladonald1@fcps.edu with any questions.
