International Night was a huge success!

2. DECA State Leadership Conference

Edison DECA had 15 students compete in the highly competitive VA state leadership conference this past weekend.  Students had an amazing experience!

DECA's role-plays and case studies are developed through industry research to reflect current issues and trends in business and industry. The role-play and case study scenarios are connected to performance indicators – key concepts from national curriculum standards that students should learn during the school year.

3. National Athletic Training Month

March is National Athletic Training Month. This short video provides an inside look at some of the daily tasks that our fantastic trainers, Tom Milosavich and Liz Snyder, are responsible for. They do their best to go above and beyond for the care of our students, and we appreciate them!

Ramadan

4. Ramadan Begins Next Week

This year, the first full day of Ramadan is Monday, March 11. In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity, and good deeds. Read more about Ramadan in National Geographic Kids.

March 11 is a religious and cultural observance day. The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances during the school year. There is school on observance days, however, tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be scheduled. See the school year calendar.

5. ✅ Take the Family Engagement Survey!

FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey is now open. Survey partner K12 Insight emailed a link to families on March 3 and again on March 6. Please participate! Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS practices to best support our students.

The survey is available in 10 languages. Parents/caregivers may stop by the front office to fill out a paper survey or complete the survey online. Please check your email for the survey invitation or use this survey link. Get more information on the Family Engagement Survey webpage

6. Please join the Class of 2026 as they present their IB MYP Personal Project Showcase

The IB MYP Personal Project is a student designed research project in which students undertake mastering a skill or project they want to improve on.   Students in English 10 have been working on their IB MYP Personal Project for the past several weeks, creating project and learning goals, researching, and mastering new skills.  Now, they are ready to showcase their incredible learning with the community.  Please join us for an open house in the library on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 3-4pm.

7. Learn About Pathways and Opportunities at Virtual Military Night

FCPS School Counseling Services is hosting a Virtual Military Night on Wednesday, March 20, 6-8 p.m. This event is designed for high school students and their families who are interested in learning more about the military pathways and opportunities. Enlistment, service academies, and ROTC pathways will be represented.

8. Parent University:  Mental Health Awareness

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

We are delighted to invite you to an important information session on mental health awareness, focusing on depression and anxiety, hosted by Edison High School. This session aims to provide strategies for navigating the mental health challenges within our community.

Parent U
  • Date: March 21, 2024
  • Time: 6:00 - 7:00 PM
  • Location: Edison High School Lecture Hall

During the session, our dedicated staff will offer comprehensive presentations on identifying signs, understanding symptoms, and accessing available resources for support. Furthermore, we are thrilled to facilitate a student panel discussion. Our students will share their perspectives on what parents need to know about mental health and provide suggestions on fostering open dialogues within families.

This event promises to be an enriching experience, offering valuable information and fostering constructive conversations about mental health within our community. We encourage all parents, guardians, and students to attend and participate actively.

The session will conclude with a question and answer segment, providing an opportunity for further clarification and engagement.

Your presence and participation are highly valued as we work together to promote mental health awareness and support within our school community. Together, we can create a safe and supportive environment for all.

We look forward to seeing you at the Mental Health Awareness Information Session on March 21st.

9. Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

This year, spring break is March 25-29. We will be eager to welcome your children back to school on Wednesday, April 3, after two teacher work days. Student attendance is very important. Every day, our teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning. Studies have shown that just two absences per month can cause students to fall behind. Let’s finish this school year strong. Visit FCPS’ website for attendance resources

10. 💜 Purple Up! on April 17 to Support Military Families

Join our community and turn FCPS purple on Purple Up! Day, Wednesday, April 17. Wear purple in recognition of FCPS’ 14,000 enrolled military-connected students.

Purple Up! T-shirts are available for purchase through Friday, March 8.
