Attendance Matters!
Why your awareness and commitment to improve attendance is important:
Enhances educational success
Absences can be sneaky and build up quietly. Missing even two days a month can put students significantly behind. Being on time for class, engaging the entire day, and missing as few days as possible sets students up for success.
Strengthens social connections
Remember, being on time and attending the entire day matters. It all adds to learning time – and being with friends, involved in activities, and receiving other support to help students thrive – that sets students up for future success.
Fosters a sense of responsibility
Consistent attendance promotes better time management skills and sets a positive example for punctuality and commitment in various aspects of life.
Spring Attendance Slump
Daily attendance often goes down before and following spring break. Please try to avoid extended vacations around spring break.
FCHS Band Restaurant Night
The FCHS Band Aides are hosting a restaurant night at El Tio in Falls Church on March 5th. The band will receive a portion of all sales from 4-10pm. Come join us for some great food and help support the FCHS Band Program!!
Jaguar 5k
We will be hosting our 19th Annual Jaguar 5k on Saturday, April 27th and we would love for you and your family and friends to join us!! This is a great community event! Registration is LIVE! Register online at www.jaguar5k.com or on paper (registrations will be in your mailboxes this week).

Family Engagement Survey
Parents/caregivers will receive the FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey Sunday, March 3, from independent research firm K12 Insight. Please participate — your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve practices to best support our students.
Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, better social skills and behavior, and an increased likelihood of graduating high school.
The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available in 10 languages. Please visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information. Your voice matters!
Join a Community Conversation on Fentanyl and Other Drugs
A community conversation addressing the opioid crisis within Northern Virginia and Fairfax County Public Schools will be held Wednesday, March 18, 6:30-8 p.m., in the auditorium at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Please enter through Door #14.
All attendees will receive a free REVIVE! Narcan training during the event and learn about support services currently available within FCPS and Fairfax County.
This discussion will provide families, staff, and students with valuable knowledge about the dangers of drugs and deadly fentanyl. The material discussed is suitable for students in grades 6-12. Together as a community, we aim to explore collaborative strategies to minimize the impact of these harmful and too-often fatal substances.
Language interpretation services are available as well as American Sign Language accommodation. Childcare and transportation will also be provided, as needed. Learn more about the event and register online.
Learn About Pathways and Opportunities at Virtual Military Night
FCPS School Counseling Services is hosting a Virtual Military Night on Wednesday, March 20, 6-8 p.m. This event is designed for high school students and their families who are interested in learning more about the military pathways and opportunities. Enlistment, service academies, and ROTC pathways will be represented.
FAFSA Updates for Seniors and Their Parents/Guardians
There have been several technological challenges with the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since its launch on December 31, 2023. The latest news is that colleges will not get FAFSA summaries from the U.S. Department of Education until mid-March at the earliest. As a result, colleges won’t be able to give students financial aid award letters based on their FAFSA information until late April to May, at best. Students who applied to a college that uses the CSS Profile may receive financial aid information sooner.
Different media outlets are reporting a growing list of colleges that will push back deadlines for students to accept offers of admission into May and even June. The American Council on Education has a database of colleges and universities that have extended their deadline to commit to enroll. We recommend that all information obtained by a secondary source be confirmed directly with the college or university.

Fairfax County Teen Job Fair
Fairfax County Teen Job Fairs and Career-Building Workshops will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at West Springfield High School.
Student registration is free and open to all teens in Fairfax County seeking employment, volunteer opportunities, or tips on building their resume. Business registration is also free and open to any organization providing positions for students.
NOVA Virtual Sessions for Seniors and Their Families
Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is offering virtual information and application sessions. Information sessions will provide an overview of NOVA and the opportunities, services, and resources designed to connect high school seniors to the NOVA Nighthawk Community.

Fairfax County Science and Engineering Fair Open House
Members of the general public are invited to attend the science fair open house at Robinson Secondary School on Sunday, March 17, 1-3 p.m.
