black heritage bowl

Pictured: 8th grade team. Our Black Heritage Trivia Bowl was held this week. Both teams did a FANTASTIC JOB and we ended the game with a tiebreaker! The final score was 8th grade with 160 points and 7th grade with 140 points.

Hello Stone Panther Families,

As we celebrated the final week of Black History Month, we had numerous students participate in our annual Black Heritage Trivia Bowl. It was great to see our 7th graders compete against our 8th graders in a friendly competition while celebrating heritage months.

SPRING IS HERE! Spring is a season of growth, renewal, and celebration, and it mirrors the positive transformations we've seen in our school community. Our students have demonstrated exceptional learning and behavior, and it fills me with immense pride. Beyond academic success, we have witnessed significant strides in the social and emotional development of our students. They have embraced challenges, worked collaboratively with peers, and developed resilience in the face of adversity. These qualities are not only essential for success in school but also lay a strong foundation for their future endeavors.

I am delighted to see our students taking on leadership roles and responsibilities within the school community. Whether it's through active participation in clubs, sports, or volunteering, their willingness to contribute positively to our school reflects a sense of ownership and pride in being part of the Stone family.

Let’s have a great week Panthers!

Sonya Williams

📆March 5 Presidential Primary

calendar reminder graphic

The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the safe and efficient administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.

Therefore, March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day for teachers.

Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as on other professional work days.

🔌Laptop Chargers

We have had an increase in students losing their laptops chargers or not bringing it to school each day. We do not have loaner chargers.

Please check with your student to make sure they have a charger. Consider helping them label it with their name in the event it gets misplaced. They should bring their charger to school everyday.

If they don't have a charger, a replacement will need to be purchased from MySchoolBucks

💳Finance Park Parent Volunteers Needed

All 8th graders will attend a field trip to JA Finance Park in April to participate in a budgeting simulation.  We need parent volunteers to help guide students through different phases of the day.  If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to your child’s Civics teacher to receive more information and the link to sign up.

💞National School Social Workers Week

At Stone, we are grateful to have TWO wonderful Social Workers that support our school community!  A huge THANK YOU to Siena Lee and Amy Young for their integral role in supporting the social and emotional needs of our students, ensuring that everyone feels valued, heard, and supported.

School Social Work Week is marked every first full week of March to celebrate school social workers across the nation and appreciate their work in helping students achieve academic success. Did you know social work began in U.S. schools over 110 years ago by visiting teachers? School social workers are professionals within the social work field that work with teachers, parents, and school administrators. They help students deal with mental health and behavioral challenges and provide academic and classroom support. They also help in developing education policies, work with crisis interventions, and identify and report child neglect and abuse.
