Young Scholar and Techstravaganza

Students who were identified in elementary school as being a Young Scholar and are currently a member of our SCMS Young Scholars Schoology Group have been invited to attend  Techstravaganza on Saturday, May 18 between 10AM - 4PM. This event is planned by TJHSST students and incorporates hands-on activities and mind-blowing activities. If your student has a passion for STEM, this opportunity allows them to embark on their own STEM journey.

To learn more about Techstravaganza, click here. If you are interested in attending with your family, please email Dana Gorman, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, at dwgorman@fcps.edu by March 7 and include the words “Techstravaganza” in the subject line of your email.

Ramadan

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, families are encouraged to contact their Ms. Jenny Payne, Director of Student Services, japayne2@fcps.edu  regarding accommodations, including but not limited to those around lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection spaces and times, and instruction.

April is the Month of the Military Child

South County Middle School invites our military students and their families to a celebration breakfast on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 8-9am.  FCPS defines military students as those with a parent or stepparent who is active-duty military, serving in the reserves or National Guard, or recently retired from service.

This will be a time for us to celebrate and honor the sacrifices made by our military students, and the commitment of their families.  We want to provide an opportunity for our military families to connect with each other and with our school community, as well as introduce our Military Family Life Counselor and celebrate our Purple Star School status.

Please RSVP using this google form.  If you are unable to attend but would still like your military student to participate, please email Melissa Shaffer mjshaffer@fcps.edu.

💜 Purple Up! on April 17 to Support Military Families

Join our community and turn FCPS purple on Purple Up! Day, Wednesday, April 17. Wear purple in recognition of FCPS’ 14,000 enrolled military-connected students.

Purple Up! T-shirts are available for purchase through Friday, March 8.

rise against hunger

We have raised $3,268 towards our $12,000 goal.  To entice student participation, we are holding a contest between the 8th grade teams.  Remember to include your student’s team color when asking friends and family to donate.  All we need to reach our goal is for each student to raise $30.  We have until April 15th to continue to raise money for the food packaging event.

Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College

On March 20th @ 6 PM, the College Funding Coach® will present their Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College workshop.

With the cost of college so high, parents can simply no longer wait until their student is in high school to start efficiently planning for the cost of college. As most parents are realizing, if they wait until their child is in high school to start saving for college, it’s the equivalent of waiting three years before retirement to start putting money aside for their golden years.

The College Funding Coach® is here to help families figure out HOW to pay for it and still retire one day. You'll discover strategies that may enable you to qualify for financial aid, sources for scholarships, and strategies for maximizing your wealth and minimizing your tax exposure, giving you greater cash flow for funding a college education.

Please join us on March 20th @ 6 PM. This is information you can't afford to miss! To reserve your seat, please Register Here. I've attached a flyer about The College Funding Coach webinar.
