A Note From Administration

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited about our events that are coming up in March.  Note that we have collaborated with the PTA and know that the dates and timing are not always in alignment with our community and in transparency we apologize. Our goal is as always to be inclusive and we value all of our community.  When planning Heritage Night, an evening was inadvertently selected that conflicts with some of our staff and community. In order to include all members of the community, we are working with the PTA on a different plan to ensure that all are included. Finding a date that ensures all can be included and that there are no major conflicts with the spring calendar with upcoming events (local sports) etc. is challenging. We will be releasing more information shortly with new plans to include all of our families.  For now, March 16th is cancelled and we will offer new plans shortly for an event later in the spring.

That said, as we go forward, we would love to invite more voices to the PTA and school to support our diverse school community. Please reach out to KGPTAPresident@gmail.com.  We welcome your support and input.

We have many events to note!  We do have Literacy Night on March 13th which will be held 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. The week of March 11 - 15, we also have the Spring Book Fair sponsored by the PTA. The book fair will be open during Literacy Night as well.

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, families are encouraged to contact KG administrators regarding accommodations, including but not limited to those around lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection spaces and times, and instruction.

Note that March 5th, schools are closed for the Presidential Primary.  SACC is open. Thanks for all of your continued support!

Warmly,

Holly McGuigan        Tia Hawkins                     Sarah Talley

FCPS Summer Camps and Learning Opportunities

Registration is now open for several summer camps and learning opportunities offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools.

CTE programs are available for students currently in grades K-5 to explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing; and for students currently in grades 6-11 to explore CTE program areas, develop skills, and begin career exploration.

IFTA and E-IFTA are weekly arts camps for students in grades 2-11. E-IFTA is for elementary students who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. IFTA allows older students to select from nearly 90 classes in art, dance, health and physical education, music, and theater. Visit the IFTA webpage or E-IFTA webpage to register.

NEXT PTA Meeting Thursday, March 21 at 7pm

A few times a year, we meet in the evenings so we can meet the needs of ALL of our KGES families! We hope you'll join us at 7pm on 3/21!

What happens at a PTA meeting? And why should you attend?

Not only do you get to hear about ALL the ways that you can support our school through your time, talents, and financial gifts, but you get to hear about timely information from Mrs. McGuigan, the PTA, and other parents about what's happening in the life of our school. At our last meeting, we learned about ALL of the Spring events coming up!

Join us on 3/21 at 7pm in the Cafeteria for our next meeting!
