Look for the FCPS Family Engagement Survey This Sunday

Parents/caregivers will receive the FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey Sunday, March 3, from independent research firm K12 Insight. Please participate — your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve practices to best support our students.Taking this survey will also help strengthen the partnership between your family and our school. When that partnership is strong, students can experience a range of benefits including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, better social skills and behavior, and an increased likelihood of graduating high school. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete and will be available in 10 languages. Please visit the Family Engagement Survey webpage for more information. Your voice matters!

PTA News

Running is Elementary is Back for the 2024 Season!

This annual West Potomac Pyramid Tradition provides a track team experience for students in grades K-6. RIE is coached by the student athletes from the West Potomac Track Team. The program concludes by bringing together students from other elementary schools within the WP pyramid for an actual track meet!

Before we can open registration, we need volunteers to commit to providing oversight during practices!

No track/field experience necessary! Volunteers will largely be responsible for getting kids checked in/out of practice, keeping eyes on their assigned group of kids, and assisting with simple non-coaching tasks as needed (such as bathroom runs).

Practices for all grades will take place after school at Stratford Landing on April 9th and 16th. Grades 3-6 will have an additional practice on April 23rd. Track meets will take place at West Potomac High School on April 22nd (K-2) and April 30th (3-6).

The number of registrants accepted for practices will be dependent on the number of volunteers we have. Children of volunteers will be guaranteed a spot at practice. Please keep an eye out for registration during the first week of March. There will be a $10 registration fee/participant, and all participants must purchase a team shirt (approximately $20).

Questions can be sent to Zack Hawkins and Rebecca Stites at RunningIsElementary@gmail.com

We are opening a family volunteer workspace at Stratford Landing! We are looking for volunteers to assist teachers with photocopying, laminating, and other clerical work that's very time-consuming. If we can get this fully staffed, we could be a HUGE help to our amazing teachers! Please email volunteers@slpta.org if you are interested in helping out.

Gentle Used and Clean Pants Donations

SLES families, the Family Resource Center needs pants donations for our students. We have a large amount of donated clothes, including winter coats, but we are almost out of pants - which usually is what students need the most when accidents happen, especially playing outside and getting muddy. Please consider donating gently used and clean pants to our school when putting away clothes that you want to give away. You can drop them off in the red box by the entrance hallway. We appreciate your kindness!
